Questions to ask beta readers

General:

Were you confused at any point of the story?

What genre would you say this book is?

When did you put the story down?

Is the ending satisfying?

If you had to cut 3 scenes what would they be?

When did you feel like the story really began?

What was the last book you read before this story?

Characters:

Do you get any of the characters names confused?

Which character is your favorite?

If you had to remove a character who would you and why? (you don't have to remove the character, just make sure their role is meaningful)

Which character do you relate to the most?

Which character do you relate to the least?

Do the characters feel real?

Are character relationships believable?

Are the goals clear and influence the plot?

Are the characters distinct (voice, motivations, etc)

Setting:

Which setting was clearest to you?

Which setting was the most memorable?

Am including enough/too much detail?

Plot and conflict:

Are the internal and external conflicts well defined for the main characters?

Are the internal conflicts and the external conflicts organic and believable?

Are there enough stakes?

Are the plot twists believable but still unexpected?

Hi, it's @ghoulical! I've moved!

Nope, I've not switched usernames (not technically!). I'm just switching my primary and secondary blogs, so @ghoulical is now my primary blog (domain formerly known as @angelisnotfun), and the previous blog (where you're seeing this post now) will no longer be my main active blog.

I’m thinking of moving this blog (which is a secondary blog) to become my primary blog (currently @angelisnotfun). Dunno if this is the best move since I don’t want to lose the followers who wanted to read my works here, but kinda forgotten about this because I hadn’t updated or posted anything in a while. (Or maybe the blog isn’t important enough that I should worry about this and be like, “Fuck it, let’s do it.”)

Good to hear you're still working on FDA (even despite the retconning thing, which--good luck with that, oh my)! Will you completely take down the old chapters, or simply update them as you make changes? Also, I saw on your 'updates' tab that you graduated, so congratulations! :)

For now, whatever "retcon" changes I make, will just be in new drafts I'm slowly rewriting over time, so the current versions of the older chapters will remain up. New chapters may have "continuity errors" that will reflect the retcon changes, and not necessarily line up with how things are set up with the older chapters. This is really just me learning the hard way about deciding to publish draft chapters, without ever fully finishing a draft of the whole story (whoops).

And, thank you very much! Finally done with school and I don't know what's worse: that, or the working life (/hj).

How’s everything going? It’s been a while since the last update so I wanted to check and see if everything’s going alright (I don’t mean to rush you or anything, so apologies if it comes off that way, I just wanna make sure you’re doing alright) I absolutely love the story btw and I’m excited to see what happens next :)

Hey, yeah, I’m so sorry for the lack of... anything the past month really (and I really do feel awful about it every day I wake up). I’m doing alright, just very incredibly busy; part-time job, classes starting again, starting another job as teaching assistant, and I just moved! I promise I’m not dead though, just really very tired and itching to write.

Hi there! Since I have accounts on neither AO3 nor Tumblr, I didn't know where else to drop this. I've been *greatly* enjoying Facilis Descensus Averno these past few weeks (finally caught up) and it's lowkey disappointing to see how few comments you seem to get on them. So I figured, what damage can dropping in here really do? Even if it is a bit random. Loving your writing and story building -- such a bummer I can't leave any more guest kudos, haha.
