You sat on the sofa, wearing one of his wider shirts while holding a cup of coffee in your hand. Your head had been everywhere but not here as you tried to order your thoughts. It wasn’t easy. Not after what had happened. It was something you could have avoided. You should have stopped in the first place, but you didn’t. You just couldn’t.

Better Days
Tumblr media
Character: Lee Jaehyeong Group: The Rose Rating/Genre: [G] General Audiences / Nostalgic  Word Count: 476 Also available on: AO3 A/N: Based on Like We Used To, written on Jaehyeong’s birthday Copy Right Claim: this is a work of fiction and my original work so please do not copy or repost this
A soft breeze skimmed along the leaves, brushing the petals of the roses outside the window. Sitting on the windowsill, Jaehyeong watched the roses bristle in the wind, petals moving like water flowing down a brook. So fragile it rippled in the breeze yet so strong it held together, straightening itself once it had settled down. He continued to watch as the breeze rustled through the bigger trees, making them sway and sprinkle orange and brown leaves onto the grass.

Awesome Sites and Links for Writers
Just about every writer out there has several go-to websites that they use when it comes to their writing. Be it for creativity, writer’s block, to put you in the mood or general writing help. These are mine and I listed them in hopes that you’ll find something that you’ll like or find something useful. I’ve also included some websites that sounded interesting, but I haven’t tried out yet.
Spelling & Grammar
Grammar Girl – Grammar Girl’s famous Quick and Dirty Tips (delivered via blog or podcast) will help you keep your creative writing error free.
The Owl – is Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL) it's a great resource for grammar guides, style tips and other information that can help with your writing, especially academics.
Tip of My Tongue — have you ever had trouble of thinking of a specific word that you can’t remember what it is? Well, this site will help you narrow down your thoughts and find that word you’ve been looking for. It can be extremely frustrating when you have to stop writing because you get a stuck on a word, so this should help cut that down.
Free Rice – is a great way to test your vocabulary knowledge. What’s even better about this site is that with every correct answer, they donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. So, please disable your adblock since they use the ads on the site to generate the money to buy the rice.
HyperGrammar – the University of Ottawa offers up a one-stop guide for proper spelling, structure, and punctuation on this site.
AutoCrit – the AutoCrit Editing Wizard can check writing for grammar errors, clichés and other no-no’s. It also provides a number of other writing resources as well.
Writer’s Digest – learn how to improve your writing, find an agent, and even get published with the help of the varied blogs on this site.
Syntaxis – it allows you to test your knowledge of grammar with a ten-question quiz. The questions change every time you take the quiz so users are sure to be challenged each time around. It definitely helps writers know if there’s something that they need to brush up on.

Explanatory Post
Hello everyone!
This post is just a basic explanation of how this blog will run from now on in. We officially started the blog on the 19th of September 2017. These last few days it may have seemed a bit quiet, it was mostly because the admins were busy making preparations. We have lots of things in store for our members and we hope you enjoy being part of our community!
Weekly Prompts
Tumblr media
Firstly, shout out to @weltraumheldin (Admin Jana) for making these wonderful banners! Weekly prompts will come out at the start of every week. These prompts will all be for works under 1000 words in length where you are given a simple prompt and have to create a piece using it (anything you like, fanfics, one shots, poems, original writing, absolutely anything). You may post these onto your own blog and tag it under #weeklyprompt or submit it to the network. There are no other limitations apart from them having to be under 1000 words (max 1500). We hope that this will help with being able to compact a lot of story into few words. At the end of each week, the admins will go through the various writings we receive and offer feedback to each of the writers about their writings. Other members are also encouraged to give feedback to each other and the admins.
Monthly Prompts
Tumblr media
Monthly prompts will work exactly like the weekly prompts only that they’ll come out once a month and much longer and they’ll also be a bit more thought provoking. Please tag these under #monthlyprompt or submit it to the network. It is encouraged that the members of the network try to do the weekly and monthly prompts if they can/find time to. But it is understandable if you are busy and unable to. The first monthly prompt will come out the first of October.
Random Prompts
Tumblr media
Random prompts will come out (as the name suggests) randomly. These are just free for use.
Tags
Please tag your works with #thewritersnetwork if you’d like us to reblog it onto our blog. Also it’d be nice if you could specify if your writing is sfw or nsfw, though a lot of people do put it in the description section that is okay too just as long as we know what it is so we can tag it appropriately on the network. And of course the #weekly prompt and #montly prompt tags. Lastly, if you would like something to be given feedback on please also tag it as #feedback wanted so that we can give it feed back specifically.
Feedback
Feedback will be given when asked (via the #feedbackwanted tag or asked directly to the blog) but if anyone has any comments to share with any other member after reading their writing then it would be lovely if an ask is left for them in their own message box. If you’d like to anonymously give feedback for something then send an anon to the network specifying which writing you mean and your comments. Constructive criticism is great, but if we find anything rude or hurtful we will not post it.
Formatting
If your writing is over 500 words please put a keep reading cut off
If nsfw, please try keep most of it under the keep reading cut off
Specify if your writing is NSFW
I hope everyone enjoys being part of this network, we will work hard to make it a nice, safe, and productive environment for everyone to share there writings! If you have any questions please message us.

WIP Tag
I was tagged by: @confessionsofashyfangirl
rule: paste one line from something (or somethings) that you are working on
I’m only working on one story right now 😭
Together The World Ends: “I’m great. Darrell and I have been going head to head these past couple years with our ranks and to be honest I don’t think I ever deserved to be ranked #9 after our junior year of high school. Darrell’s parents constantly got mad at him for being ranked last in the “top 10” and now he can finally show them that he deserves the respect he should’ve been given the day he was born. I wasn’t mad if that’s what you thought, I was just shocked because I didn’t think this day would come,”
I have no one to tag but if you’d like to do this go for it

Who Told?
So this is a scene from a story that I’m working on called Together Till The World Ends. It’s an original story, but I hope everyone enjoys it. I have no summary but I’ll try to make one now. Any feedback or constructive criticism is much appreciated!! :)
Summary: Ellington Academy is a school for highly gifted assassins. Things have been going great for a long time until one day there’s a change within the school. Changes can be good and/or bad, but this change proves to be bad as the students within the school have their worlds turned upside down. The enemy is out to ruin their lives no matter what it takes. They worked so hard to create a strong united front, but will it all come crashing down because of the enemy?
“I can’t believe you Brandon,”
“It’s not- I didn’t want to do this Sapphire, I swear. I wasn’t trying to hurt you or Kieran,”
“Are you kidding me? Right now I couldn’t care less if you hurt me, people do it all the time and I’m so used to it, but Kieran- Fuck! Brandon what the hell were you thinking!”
Sapphire’s voice echoed of the walls of the room when she yelled at Brandon from the other side of the table. Her emotions were running at an all time high, unable to deal with what Brandon had told her. For the first time in a long time she felt like she wanted to cry and that put her on edge. They weren’t going to be the little “oh I hurt myself” tears or the “I’m on my period and my emotions are messing with me” tears. These were going to be the “I’m on the verge of having a breakdown” tears.
Sapphire stood slightly and reached across the table to grab Brandon by his shirt. “Why?! Why would you expose Kieran like that? He’s never done anything to you. I told you what I did in confidence because we have feelings for each other and I-” Sapphire felt the tears welling up in her eyes. “I thought I could finally trust someone again after being stabbed in the back so many times, but I guess I was wrong.”
Sapphire dropped back down into her seat and ducked her head down to keep Brandon from seeing the tears as they began to burn her eyes. Brandon felt like he had been struck in the heart after seeing Sapphire like this. He stood up and made his way to the other side of the table, kneeling by Sapphire’s side.
Brandon softly grabbed Sapphire’s hands to turn her sideways, but her head remained ducked down. “Please look at me. I need to explain why I exposed Kieran. I truly was not trying to make his life even more hellish than what it is right now,”
Sapphire pulled her hands from Brandon’s grasp, wiped at her eyes, and look him dead in the eyes. “I don’t want any bullshit, you have to tell me the complete truth. Don’t try to leave things out to smooth things over more easily. I swear to god it had better be good or I’ll break your neck like it’s nothing but a twig.”
Brandon snorted softly at Sapphire’s words knowing she was somewhat serious, but he was thankful she wasn’t trying to beat his ass before letting him explain. “A couple days ago when you told me that Kieran was working for the enemy and that he was being blackmailed I thought about how hard that must’ve been for him. When you told me he had a relapse because of this I didn’t want anything worse to happen to him. I went to Director Jones because I knew he had a soft spot for Kieran, due to some incident from their past, thinking that he would be able to at the least put Kieran’s mind at ease. Unfortunately it looks like Jones had to do what he had to do. He swore on his life he wouldn’t tell anyone, but-” Brandon stopped speaking and a strange facial expression crossed his face. Something wasn’t adding up. When Jones said that he wouldn’t ever tell anyone his facial expression backed up his words even more.
Sapphire quickly caught onto Brandon’s change in facial expressions. “Wait, are you thinking that someone else found out and spread it around school leaving out the part that Kieran was blackmailed? Do you think it was Hemmin-”
Brandon cut her off. “Hemmington would never. I know you don’t like him, but he’s not a shitty person at least not without a justified reason. Even if Jones did tell Hemmington he wouldn’t have left out the part about Kieran being blackmailed. And like I said before Hemmington isn’t a shitty person. He has no reason to hate or be against Kieran. The two of them barely even know each other. You know anytime Kieran’s had to meet with someone in the school it’s always Jones. I’ve never been so sure in my life that someone else knows and is purposely trying to get people to turn against Kieran.”
Although hearing Brandon’s explanation changed Sapphire’s current view on him, she couldn’t help but still feel like she wanted to cry. Kieran had so many ups and downs in his life and constantly faked his happiness to keep people from worrying about him. She had seen Kieran after Taikei had found the bruises the enemy had left on him when he tried to defy orders. She had seen him when he broke down and told the two of them that he had had a relapse and that it had never been this bad before. Sapphire had seen him when he looked absolutely crushed after realizing that he might lose Taikei, the boyfriend he loved and never wanted to let go, because he was only allowed to tell one person the truth and he had chosen Sapphire. Kieran had no idea that the truth was out and neither did Taikei. The two of them had been spending time at home after what happened, but things were tense as it was becoming clear that Taikei didn’t like the fact that he knew nothing.
Sapphire let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed her hands over her face roughly, feeling the tears coming again. This time she didn’t try to hold them back. She was tired. Tired of everything that had been going wrong since Principal Matin and Director Lumes had left. Almost nothing good had come out of them leaving and it was taking a toll on everyone. Their enemies were getting stronger, there were traitors among them, and the bond that they had worked so hard to form was crumbling right in front of their eyes.
Brandon caught a glimpse of Sapphire’s tears and pulled her into a hug. “Why are you crying? What’s wrong?”
Sapphire’s face was buried in his neck, but she still replied. “My heart is literally breaking for Kieran. He’s been my best friend almost since birth and I’ve never seen him look the way he does now. Not to mention the school is falling apart because of the enemy’s new tactics. On top of that there’s the truth about Alec’s death. Everything is so fucking overwhelming and I just can’t deal with it anymore. I haven’t cried since last year and I’m tired of holding my tears back. I needed a good cry so here I am. If you tell anyone about this though I’ll shove your face into the ground.”
While Sapphire hadn’t cried hard, she still cried enough to where she felt a little bit of weight lift off her shoulders. The one thing currently bothering her the most was: who had exposed Kieran and left out the important details? Kieran didn’t go to the school therefore most people didn’t know him and those who did were a part of the school’s high ranking teams. As far as she knew none of them hated Kieran. He pretty much kept to himself when he was in the school without Sapphire.
Brandon stood up and Sapphire cringed at the sound of his knees popping. “Maybe we need to talk to Jones then,”
“Fine, let’s go then. I’m still on the fence about believing him anyways. If I see his facial expression I’ll definitely be able to tell if he truly did rat Kieran out. People make it too easy to read them nowadays.” Sapphire said standing up and heading for the door.
Sapphire yanked the door open and watched as it slammed into the wall connected to its hinges. She turned to face Brandon, who had quickly rushed to follow her. “I know I’ve said a lot of threats today, but if Jones is the one behind this I really will knock the shit out of him. I’ve had it with all these people around us trying to play games and it’s time for someone to learn a lesson. By the way you have to buy me some mac and cheese for dinner. I specifically told you not to tell anyone about Kieran. Even though you reason for doing so was good this could blow up in our faces. Make sure it’s from Heaven In A Bowl. Don’t forget to ask for extra cheese and bread crumbs,”
Sapphire turned on her heel and made her way out of the room. They were halfway down the hall before she remembered an important part of her request.
“Oh and make sure it’s to go. I don’t want to eat with you and get stuck seeing your nasty looking face,”
“That’s cute because just yesterday you said you loved my face,” Brandon said poking her in the back of the neck.
Sapphire rolled her eyes and elbowed him in the stomach to keep her distance. “I’ll make you a deal. Buy me two orders of mac and cheese and you can eat at my dorm, just try not to be annoying for once,”
Brandon spun her around and lifted her hand to give her a high-five with a smirk resting on his lips. “Deal.”

And of course the #weeklyprompt and #montlyprompt tags. Lastly, if you would like something to be given feedback on please also tag it as #feedbackwanted so that we can give it feed back specifically.
I hope everyone enjoys being part of this network, we will work hard to make it a nice, safe, and productive environment for everyone to share there writings! If you have any questions please message us.

13 quick tips when you're starting your novel
Wind down. The stress of the day stays in your system until you give yourself time to detox. Do something relaxing, even if that means scrolling a few pages on your dash – but be careful, because Tumblr and other social media sites are time thieves. Two hours later, you’ll realize you’re on page twenty of your dash and still on page 1 of your story.
Wind up. Spend some time getting yourself into the mood. Look at awesome art, play the right music for the right scene, doodle, even if your doodles suck. Sometimes windup time is also taking a shower or folding the laundry – mindless chores where you can let yourself immerse your brain in your story and get excited again.
First drafts suck. “I wrote too much of [thing]” or “My opening is just not working” or “I hate every word of it” are all legitimate thoughts, but leave all that in the past. It’s done. When you finish, you can go back and revise all you want (and you might even find that the beginning isn’t as bad as you initially thought). What matters is not the quality, but finishing. Give yourself permission to suck.
Gain momentum. For me, the first few minutes of writing are absolutely agonizing. Focusing is pretty much a physical strain, but once I’ve forced myself to focus for a good ten minutes, the next time I look up from writing, it’s dark outside. Let yourself get started before you get frustrated or distracted.
The beginning slump. Openings are always the worst part for me, and by “opening”, I mean the first few chapters. All I want is to be completely submerged in the story, and the opening is far from that. But once I labor through these first few chapters, I find myself writing a lot more proficiently with fewer agonized groans.
The post-beginning slump. For others, the slump happens after the opening chapters are finished. The shiny newness of the story is gone, and now we face being married to these characters and this story until the end. Find ways to keep yourself interested in your story, if that means simply writing through the agony or transforming your outline to make it fun again. Sometimes the scenes we don’t want to write are scenes that drag the story anyway.
When you’re stuck, outline. When we hit the “Now what?” problem, sometimes that stops us from moving forward. I get to a point of “I didn’t plan this out as thoroughly as I should have,” and then it’s easy for me to get distracted by other things instead of figuring out the perplexing problem. Oftentimes, I’ll take a moment to outline each step I need in order to clear the problem, using it as a guide to conquer the scene.
Don’t edit. It’s easy to get caught up in wondering what we’ve written, wanting to take a step back and look at it, but then we chance getting caught up in fixing things that don’t need fixing until the revision process. It’s like productive procrastinating, but it’s definitely not building your word count the way actually writing can. That being said –
Reread. I used to reread in order to get my brain back into the story, and I allowed myself only micro-edits here and there. Rereading can work for some writers, revving the fingers for plenty of words, but it can also work against other writers who might have trouble with confidence in what they write. Figure out what helps you versus what hurts you.
Read. If rereading doesn’t work, try simple reading, but read something that’ll get going that drive to write, something that inspires that absolute need to type a million words into your story.
Write with someone. Word sprints and word marathons are good ways to keep up morale. If nothing else, having a writing buddy to whine with about writing woes is always good for morale. But –
Don’t compare your word count to others. I can write for long periods of time, but just about all of my writing friends can write nearly twice as fast as I can. I’m a slow writer (and a slow reader, actually), but my writing stamina has built up over the course of a decade. You’re not in the same place in your life that others are, so set the goals that are right for you, not for them.
Give yourself permission to fail. If you only write a couple hundred words in a day, that’s okay. That’s a couple hundred words you didn’t have before, and if you write a couple hundred words every day, you’ll have a few pages by the end of the week. If you don’t write any words in a day, that’s okay. Tomorrows are not the same as yesterdays. You don’t know what you’ll do until you’ve done it.
