You pressed your back to the door and squeezed your eyes shut. This wasn’t happening. This could not be happening. You wished the floor would open up and swallow you whole, but nothing happened.

Jisung knocked on the door and spoke through it. “Uh, yn? Can I… can I come in?”

“Um, y-yeah,” you called shakily, pushing yourself away from the door on weak legs. “Just, uh, just give me a minute.”

“Kind of… But I’m not, like, nervous in a bad way…” You whispered back, voice trailing off as you realized the implications of what you’d just said. Where you’d been unable to even look at Jisung when he’d first arrived, now you couldn’t bring yourself to tear your eyes away.

He breathed out slowly and swallowed. You watched his Adam’s apple bob with the action. “Are you… Did the text I sent make you… Did it turn you on?”

“That depends,” you breathed back, eyes flicking to look at his lips. “Depends on how you would react if I said yes.”

Jisung fidgeted nervously as he sat, waiting for you, at the cafe you agreed to meet at. Under normal circumstances, meeting in public like this would be risky for the two of you, but with it already having been announced that you would MC for Music Core together, you’d received the ‘okay’ to meet at the cafe. You were both relieved—it felt a little less stifling away from the company or your dorms.

Jisung checked the time on his phone again. There were still fifteen minutes until the time you’d agreed to meet at. He’d been so nervous about being late that he’d shown up painfully early. Hence, why he was sitting awkwardly at a table and checking the time every thirty seconds.

He looked over at the door when the bell above it jingled. He sucked in a sharp breath. There you were. He waved a little, smiling, which caught your attention. You grinned back at him and hurried over to his table.

“Hey!” You said cheerfully as you sat across from him. “You’re early too. I hope I didn’t make you wait long.”

He shook his head. “N-No, not at all. I, uh, I just got here.”

It was a lie, but you didn’t need to know that. He hoped you couldn’t tell.

“Good. Do you want to go get something to drink? Or did you order already?”

“I was waiting for you.” His smile spread even wider across his lips as he stood, leading you to the counter to order.

The cashier was a little too friendly for his liking, her smile stretched unnaturally wide. He always felt awkward when service workers tried so hard to act like his best friend. He knew it was just their job so he never said anything. He shifted uncomfortably as the cashier greeted them. “Hi there! What can I get going for you?”

“We’ll have an iced americano,” Jisung started and then looked at you. “And whatever she wants. I’ll pay for us.”

You looked at him in shock with half a mind to protest that you could pay for yourself. After a moment of looking at him, though, you decided not to make a scene so you ordered your drink anyway and watched shyly as Jisung paid for you. You stood off to the side and waited for your drinks to be called out.

“Thanks for paying for me. You didn’t have to.”

“It’s no problem. I wanted to,” he shrugged but didn’t look at you. Maybe you were imagining the way his cheeks went pink…

“Well, if we do this again, ever, I’ll pay!” Jisung opened his mouth to say something but the barista called Jisung’s name. Your drinks were ready. You changed the subject. “So, my manager gave me the script for MuCore. Did yours?”

Jisung nodded as he slid back into his seat. “Yeah. I brought it with me. Figured we could try running through it together.”

“That’s probably good,” you agreed, reaching into your bag and pulling out your own copy of the script.

The two of you ran through the script twice, sipping your drinks in the process and giggling over the stupid jokes littered throughout the pages. After the second time running through it, you decided you were done thinking about MuCore for a little bit and leaned back in your seat, looking around the cafe and observing the people there.

Jisung pulled his laptop out and his headphones. “So, uh, do you want to hear the song I want your voice on?”

“Are you kidding?” You gasped and leaned in, reaching for the headphones he held in his hand. “I would love that. Show me!”

He chuckled nervously and made sure the headphones were working properly before passing them to you and pushing play on his laptop. It was a love song. Your heart swelled at that. Jisung wanted you to sing with him on a love song.

You listened carefully, nodding along to the music as you did. When the song ended, you were kind of… sad. You wanted it to keep going. You pulled the headphones off and grinned at him. He was watching you anxiously—expectantly. “Jisung, this is… this is really good. I love it!”

“You—you really think so?” He brightened at your words and grinned happily when you nodded in affirmation. “Ah, I’m so glad you like it. So, will you—would you want to sing on the demo?”

“Yes! I’d be so honored to!”

“Cool.”

Jisung looks down shyly, missing the way you watch him with fond eyes. And when you look out the window, trying to contain your giddiness, you miss the way Jisung looks at you the same way.
