THE PROMISED NEVERLAND - MY FIRST THOUGHTS
2-27-19
I don’t read a lot of manga. In fact, the only other manga I've read is BNHA, and that’s because the anime season was over and I wanted to know what was happening so I wouldn’t be spoiled online. That being said, I did decide to read the first few chapters of ā€œThe Promised Neverland,ā€ and I really enjoyed them. I’m planning on reading more of the manga, but I’m not sure where to do so, as the site I was on only allowed you to view the first few chapters without a subscription. For those of you unaware, ā€œThe Promised Neverlandā€ is a manga created by Ā Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu. It has recently become a decently popular anime, which is how I found out about it. However, it hasn’t been dubbed, and anyone who knows me knows that I’m super lazy when it comes to subtitles. I still wanted to engage with the show in some way before I can watch it, so I turned to the manga. The story of ā€œThe Promised Neverlandā€ follows a 13-year-old orphan named Emma in the year 2045. The orphans live a relatively normal life at their relatively normal orphanage. That is, however, excluding the daily tests, as well as the numbers each child has on their neck. Emma and the other oldest children, Norman and Ray, have the highest test scores. They’ve been there since they were little and wonder why they have yet to be adopted. One night, Conny, another one of the children, is leaving to be adopted. She forgets her stuffed bunny and Emma and Norman sneak out to give it to her. Sadly, they make a terrifying discovery once they find her.
I don’t want to spoil it for you because the story is excellent and the reveal they do to show this twist really surprised me. I was sucked in rather quickly, and it didn’t take long for the story to get interesting. The way the orphanage is run is very unsettling once you get into the plot a little more. I 100% recommend this read to anybody looking for something creepy and dystopian.

BENTO WAS FINE
2-25-19
Ben-to is one of the first shows I watched all the way through and still had a lukewarm feeling regarding it. With Tokyo Ghoul, I hate-watched the last season and a half. But with this show, my viewing of it was very passive, indifferent, and at most, slightly annoyed. Ben-to, which ran in 2011, is categorized as action, comedy, and harem. The Action is initially what drew me into the show. The concept of ā€œBento Brawlsā€ where people would battle it out for half-priced bento sounded fun and enjoyable, and it was… for the first few episodes. Now I mentioned earlier that Ben-to is also classified as a harem, a genre that I’m not a big fan of personally.
As the show went on, more and more of it centered around weird incestuous love triangles and less on the brawling itself. I found myself bored with the plot and the brawls they did show us weren’t as entertaining as the first few that had made me want to keep watching. It turned into more of an obligation to finish the show since I was already eight episodes in at that point. I kept putting off the last few episodes and opted for starting and completing all of Soul Eater (review soon) and half of Cowboy Bebop instead. Once I finally did get around to finishing the show, I found that the ending was just meh. It felt rushed and like they wanted more episodes or didn’t pace the show properly and they ended up introducing a new conflict with only about three episodes left. Overall, I was indifferent about the show. I liked the brawls and a few of the characters, none of them were that memorable except for the ones that would be spoilers to include. Yo was the main character, and I couldn’t get behind. However, if you like harem, this might be a fun watch for you.

A Letter to Catherine Regarding Assassination Classroom
2-15-19
Dearest Catherine,Ā
What gives you the RIGHT to shut down such a well done and exhilarating show! Assassination Classroom, know to fans as the shortened ā€œAss Classā€ is a masterpiece of modern anime and you have the AUDACITY to tell me you’re re-watching Ouran High? Disgraceful! Those who do not know the care an unbreakable bond between Koro Sensei and his beloved class 3-E don’t deserve to call themselves anime fans. Your lack of taste is ABYSMAL. I put a curse upon your family! Until you watch my sacred slice of animation genius, you will be cursed with the fury of 1,000 transgender weebs! I hope you understand the magnitude of your decision and repent for your sins!
Your most exuberant hater, Ed

Tokyo Ghoul is Garbage
2-15-19
Tokyo Ghoul is complete trash, and I’m here to tell you why. We’re going to be dividing my reasons into a few sections. √A, Re, and my overall feelings on the show. I won’t be taking any beef with the first season because I thought it was well done for the most part. However, It is absolutely horrible after that initial first season. This also has nothing to do with the manga. I haven’t read it, and therefore I can’t criticize it. My anger is only with the show and how it was handled.
My Beef with √A
√A was poorly handled, and it was physically painful to get through. This second season of the show wasn’t drawing from the manga like the season prior. However, the storyline they went with was awful. Most of the season was spent following the CCG. The agents they had us following were the blandest and uninteresting characters I have ever seen in such a popular anime. The one saving grace of √A was the delightfully crazy CCG agent, Juuzou Suzuya. Juuzou was able to keep season 2 slightly interesting, and I was pulled out of my crippling boredom every time he was on screen.
Re: Wasn't Anime-only Friendly
The final season tried to please the upset audience by going back to the storyline presented in the manga. However, they didn’t spend any time explaining what was going on for the anime-only viewer. Re: jumps right in with the manga storyline and I was utterly lost. I’m not going into detail because, honestly, I’m still flummoxed. I had to watch a manga summary video to understand what was going on. They also ruined Juuzo by making him all emo and weird, and I hated it. All the characters seemed to become exaggerations of their original personalities, and the storylines were all over the place. I also hated the personalities of all the Quinxes, and I wanted them all to get eaten.
Overall Opinion
I haven’t finished Re: yet (I think I have about five episodes left), and I’m not even sure I want to. It’s just going all over the place, and I don’t think I can take it anymore. If you want a show that perfect from beginning to end, I recommend Assassination Classroom. I’m currently working on a review/letter to my friend on the show that should be out soon.
