One of my current classmates shared this piece with me. He was one of very few animators that collaborated to make this beautiful story - based on a true story.

The making of Isle of Dogs - animation department.
I love behind the scene shorts, especially about the process of stop motion animation. The film looks fun, I can’t wait to see it. :)
YouTube information:
ISLE OF DOGS opens in theaters March 23, 2018. ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. Shot breakdown by animator Bryce McGovern - instagram @brycemcgovern
I love this breakdown - it’s incredible at showing how to splice together reference from multiple shots, and it includes the process of dealing with multiple characters interacting, and the changes that come with that through the process. It’s wonderful. :)
Vimeo Information:
I put together the stages this scene went through, from the layout that I got handed before I started the scene, my reference, blocking, first pass animation and final pass. I added the final version for the scene to show how it all looks in the end, with everyones amazing work put into it from CFX, VFX, Lighting, and the final sound editing. A really fun character to develop and an amazing piece of dialog to animate to. Thank you Patrick Warburton!! ….high five
*the scene of Diametes growling is not my work. The very talented Cory Rogers animated that gem.

The Making of a Walk
Alexander Savchenko – Progression of the 4th animation exercise at Sasha Dorogov’s animation school. Music: George Streicher – Celestial
Full shot can be seen here. 3D reference model renders - his process is that he often creates 3D models of the characters he will be doing 2D Animation for, so he can use them for reference - incredible. :)

Justin is security guard in a mannequin factory. When working on the night shift it never matches his colleagues, but ironically spends his nights surrounded by human figures. This is absolutely amazing! :)
This was an exercise done by students of Fantastique, of Melies - School of Film, 3D and Animation. Mind blowing project - what a perfect way to teach students about animating together for a project. Obviously, in a feature setting, you would want consistency, but I absolutely love seeing their different styles and interpretations of the dance - bravo!

Madeleine
Beautiful style - would love to see more. :)
Vimeo Information:
madeleine-short shortfrom
Madeleine is the first of a series of very short films I'm planning to have fun making. I've been working professionally for almost eleven years and have found that I have lost touch with who I am artistically. Of course there was Violince, but after two years, I've found that even there, I was falling into a routine, so this very short format allows me to experiment a bunch of new techniques and to stretch my legs a bit, and so far I love it. My only regret is that this one took a bit longer than anticipated (though a reasonable two months...) because of the watercolour texturing I kind of stumbled upon, but I'm so pleased with the result that it was well worth it. The main goal for me is to have fun making these shorts, but I also want to keep learning, so if you have comments, critics, I'm happy to hear about them!

Continuing the seemingly constant theme of Disney work inspiration (man, they make some good stuff) - I love this reel created by Benson Shum. There are some beautiful character moments in this work, and holy heck, he did a lot on the movie. Very inspiring indeed. :)
PS - I will warn you that there are spoiler alert - watch out after 1:42 - but seriously, who hasn’t seen Frozen by now?! :)
