SOS chaining for shinies works, y’all! This little gal took me a couple of hours of multi-tasking and I’m THRILLED. If it’s easy enough to transfer from SuMo to the Ultra games, I’ll be using this Bounsweet for my playthrough! Tsareena’s shiny looks amazing in my personal opinion and I can’t wait and I can’t wait to use one.

Laura’s Most-Likely-to-SOS-Chain Alolan Shinies!
Ok, so this is a little bit different in terms of lists! I’ve been thinking about starting SOS chaining to try and find some more shinies (apart from my lovely Alolan Exeggcute, Gooseberry, who I found by chance).
I’m no shiny hunting pro, but I’ve bred and found plenty in my day nonetheless, so I wanted to start thinking about some of my favorites that I could try out this new method with. So that excludes starters, which I would do the Masuda method for if I chose to (and I just might, considering how good the Rowlett line looks!).
Tumblr media
1. Cutiefly Cutiefly was an instant favorite of mine from Alola when it was first announced. I ended up using one on my Sun team and loved using it, too. Cutiefly’s shiny makes it even more precious in powder pink, and fortunately its evo Ribombee looks just as good.
Tumblr media
2. Mimikyu Mimkyu’s shiny instantly hearkened back to the original games’ gray and black palette for me. I love the nostalgic feel this guy’s shiny brings, along with really accentuating its ghost type at the same time. I’d seriously love to snag one of these.
Tumblr media
3. Stufful  It’s clear that Stufful’s design was inspired by a Red Panda, and I love that its shiny reflects that inspiration. I may even prefer it to the original bubble gum pink scheme, but it’s a bit of a toss up all in all. These guys just look really good in orange.
Tumblr media
4. Bounsweet I plan to add a Tsareena to my Ultra Moon team, and it just looks amazing as a shiny. I love the lavender and chartreuse paired with the base magenta color. This is one Pokémon I’d seriously consider shiny hunting for then transferring over to Ultra Moon when the time comes!
Tumblr media
5. Rockruff Blue puppy. Need I say more? I also have to wonder if the green eyes they gave this guy plays into the green flash lore the Dusk form is getting in the anime. I wouldn’t put it past Pokémon as more and more often the anime and games have dipped into each other’s worlds. Lycanroc Midday, my preferred form, looks pretty good too in a dusty blue.
Tumblr media
6. Sandygast There are six Pokémon on this list, because I make the rules, right? Sandygast and its evolution have some pretty amazing shinies inspired by the black sand beaches of Hawaii. This isn’t a Pokémon I’d probably ever employ on its own, but its shiny has been hailed as one of the most brilliant of the generation for a reason. It looks really great, and I’d definitely consider adding a shiny Palossand to my team.

That’s a wrap on Pokémon Silver!
My final team consisted of the above, including their movesets in-full. We caught Lugia and Ho-Oh, got 16 badges, beat the Elite Four at least 10 times, and knocked out Red with a team of level 55s across the board.
This was a great nostalgic playthrough of one of my favorite all-time Pokémon games. It’s funny, I’d forgotten how some of the mechanics played out. From super brutal capture rates, to animations that involved the movement or distortion of the status bar, to running out of money suuuper easily.
Time to kick back up Omega Ruby, then after that I’ll probably shiny hunt or post game in Sun until the Ultra games come out!

Laura’s Top 5 Fighting Types
I’ve been hella stressed lately, so it felt like a good time to take a five minute break at work and unwind with a top 5 type list! Today we’re going with Fighting. Also worth noting since I haven’t yet that I’m only listing out types whose primary or full typing is the one I’m making a top 5 for. For example, I love Heracross, but he’ll probably make the bug list instead! Anyway, with that said, let’s get to it!
1. Pangoro I’ve never been the biggest fighting type user, but when Pangoro rolled around I had to have it. Mine’s name was Impact in X, and I loved it. Its dual typing is super cool, and it’s an angry panda? What’s not to love.
2. Primape This may seem a weird one to be so high up on the list, but I’ve always held a special place in my heart for this weirdo pig monkey. Primeape was in the very first episode of Pokémon I ever watched, and I’ll never forget his anime Pokédex entry stating that it will chase you forever. Forever. Ash had to catch it to avoid this... clearly.
3. Hawlucha  Hawlucha’s another cutie that I further liked thanks to the anime. I didn’t use it during my first play through of the Kalos region, but in my Y version I have a Hawlucha named Torte and I’m really enjoying it. It has that right balance of cute/tough/weird that just hits home for me.
4. Hitmonchan Hitmonchan is probably admittedly another nostalgia pick. I always remember far preferring him to Hitmonlee when given the choice on who to pick at the Fighting Dojo in gen 1. He gets all the cool punches and he’s somehow cute in spite of the fact that he’s some weird humanoid. I believe I recall him being pretty entertaining in the anime as well.
5. Passimian Passimian is a new one on me and just narrowly missed joining my Sun team. I did catch one and call it Rambutan, but it was edged out for a better balanced team. Regardless, this guy is super cute. While his fighting typing is a bit weird based on his appearance for me, I love his design and I hope he makes an anime appearance.

Silver: Team Update!
Just a little mid play through check-in.
I just beat Ecruteak City’s Morty, and my team currently consists of Croconaw, Flaaffy (a beloved temp party member named Primrose), Gloom, and the late-evolving Togetic. Everyone’s right around level 26-27 right now, and I’m going crazy trying to find a Heracross (so... much... headbutting).
So who’s left to add to the team? Houndour, who I believe comes much later (Safari Zone? Kanto?), the elusive Heracross, and Eevee who will eventually become Espeon (who I believe I get from Bill in a bit).
So all in all, a very mid-game team. Middle evos, not a complete party, WIP movesets. They’re scrappy and cute and I love them!

Can we just talk about the level of callback Pokémon pulled off in the latest episode of the Sun/Moon anime?
For context, Ash and his class at the Pokémon School in Alola are visiting Kanto for a field trip. Ash reunites with Brock and Misty, and they demonstrate how gym battles work in Kanto. During Brock’s battle, he’s suddenly shirtless, arms crossed, super intense looking.
Looks an awful lot like his gen 1 gym leader sprite... just saying.

Who’s downloading Pokémon Gold or Silver tomorrow? This was one of my favorite gens, and I can’t wait for the digital download for 3DS. I thought I’d doodle my team and their nicknames to show off who I plan to use! Who are you using? Which version are you picking (Silver here!)? Which starter are you choosing (Totodile 4 ever)?

Current Playthrough: Pokémon Omega Ruby
Tumblr media
Today I’ll be highlighting my current team and place in my playthrough of Omega Ruby. I loved original Ruby for its secret base feature the most, but it was admittedly toward the end of my first big Pokémon phase (age 8-12). Then I took a break because I was ‘grown up,’ and returned for the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver when nostalgia came knocking. I’m not positive I ever even finished the original Ruby game (I didn’t finish my first playthrough of Omega Ruby, either... oops), so I knew this playthrough would have as many surprises as it would nostalgia. While a lot of people speak of Gen 3 as being what they really remember about the original games, that just wasn’t me! My heart was with gens 1 & 2, so it’s been fun to fall in love with and really discover gen 3 in a meaningful way this time around.
Anyway, enough background! Let’s dive into where I’m at, and what my team is looking like. Also, they have cocktail themed names!
Trainer Name:  Laura (I’m creative, I know) Friend Code: 4699 - 6328 - 8516
Current Location: Route 119, building my secret base (click that link for a video tour; spoiler alert, I love dolls)
Number of Badges: 6
Money:  13,346 pokédollars (I spent the majority of my money on secret base decor, sorry not sorry)
Hoenn Pokémon: 114
Play Time: 22:26 (much of it spent trying to complete all the catches for the DexNav, and not realizing that Plusle only appears in hoardes... also I get distracted easily, don’t judge my slow-ass playthroughs!)
Current Party: I really love the team I’ve put together! I’m not competitive, but I still have fun planning out my team and their movesets for the metagame. Naturally I chose a water starter and my favorite of the bunch. I’ve used all the other Pokémon at one time or another, with the exception of Breloom who I feel like I’ve always overlooked and wanted to give a shot. She was a late addition, but I’m enjoying playing with her so far! All movesets are a work in progress.

Laura’s Top 5 Fire Types
Aaand the series continues with Fire! I won’t be doing all of the types in a row—meaning I’ll certainly be doing other types of posts in between—but the last one was fun to think on so I just had to do one more!
1. Charmander My very first starter, an integral anime role, and just plain cute, Charmander easily tops this list. I remember grinding him in my first-ever Red playthrough to beat Brock along with my likely support team of Pidgey, Butterfree, and Pikachu at that time. Charizard is super cool, while Charmeleon is more of the awkward teenager form, but Charmander is my favorite stage of this line—and it’s not close.
2. Arcanine Big fire puppy? Big heart eyes. Arcanine didn’t have much of a feature in the anime compared with Growlithe, but my first love of him actually came from Pokémon Snap! When throwing pester balls into lava craters, Growlithe would pop out—and rarely, Arcanine. It would come out and shake fiery embers out of its fur and it was always super pretty.
3. Cyndaquil Fact: I’ve never actually used Cyndaquil in my Gen 2 playthroughs in spite of my love for it! I just love Totodile too much. That said, he was a very very close second and I wished I could use them both. Cyndaquil is adorable and spunky and has an equally cool final evo.
4. Braixen My favorite Kalos starter stage! I used the Fennekin line in this gen, the first time I had chosen a fire starter since Pokémon Red. But little Fennekin was just too adorable, and I tend to love middle stages. Braixen was no exception. They’re just the right combo of cool and cute for me, and I loved mine—named Hex—in my first playthrough of X.
5. Litten Ah, another Fire starter that could have been so great... I’m just not a fan of Litten’s final evo, but before I saw its last form, I was positive it was going to be a part of my team. Why so many bipedals Pokémon? Anyway, even with the disappointing path I felt his line took, Litten is adorable in its own right, and a cat. Plus he’s super cute in the anime.

Laura’s Top 5 Normal Types
One series I’d like to do is my ‘top 5′ from each of the recognized Pokémon types! Normal seemed as a good a blank slate to start from as any, so with that, I’ll break these choices down!
1. Meowth That’s right! For anyone who knows me well, this is hardly a shocker... I’m a huge Team Rocket fan and for many years Meowth was hands down my favorite Pokémon! I loved his portrayal in the anime and have retained a fondness for both him and his evo, Persian. However, Meowth still holds the #1 spot in my heart.
2. Furret Unlike Meowth, Furret never had much of a role in the anime. However, I always had one in my team for my Gen 2 playthroughs. I tended to pick up common Pokémon early in game then get attached, and see them through to the Elite Four. Plus, Furret is just adorable! Mine always knew Surf—because novelty.
3. Eevee  Eevee’s a fan favorite and for good reason. This adorable little fox-dog is precious in its own respect, and it evolves into some more of everybody’s favorite branched evos. You’ll probably notice pet-like Pokémon are a common thread for normal types, and there’s a reason for that. While I like strong Pokémon, I also like adorable, charming ones.
4. Aipom This is kind of the wildcard of the bunch, and never one I would have chosen before last year in my complete watch through of every Pokémon episode to date (!). Aipom is just adorable in the anime, though I’m not nearly as fond of its evolution. Unfortunately, due to its stats and dislike of it’s evolution, I’d probably never use it in an actual playthrough.
5. Stoutland Looking back at Black and White, Stoutland should have been a natural addition to my team, but I didn’t choose to add him back then. However, he’s really grown on me since, especially with his endearing appearances in the Sun/Moon anime. He’s a cute, strong normal type... and a dog. Good enough for me.
That’s it for this one! If you have a type you want me to do next, or have an idea for a top x post, let me know!

Hi! I’m Laura.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve loved Pokémon since I was 8 years old and I first laid eyes on a Pocket Pikachu commercial. My first game was Red, my first starter Charmander (even though I chose the water starter nearly every time after), and my first episode was Primeape Goes Bananas. I love Team Rocket and even named my cat Jessie. James is one of my favorite characters of all time. I don’t know exactly what this blog will entail yet! Personal favorites? Nostalgia? Playthroughs? (Casual) shiny hunting? Anime opinions? We’ll see. Either way, I’ve just been craving a place to put down some thoughts on Pokémon, so here we are. Don’t hesitate to say hello!
