Visit Anji - October 12 to 20, 2019
Seven Day, Eight Night All-Inclusive Study Tour
~Details Below~
Join us as we visit the schools of Anji. Observe the practice of Anji Play at its source. Learn from local peers and communities. Meet colleagues from across the globe. Deepen your understanding of the Anji Play educational philosophy and connect with a global community of Anji Play practitioners during this week-long immersive program.
The Study Tour program includes daily visits to Anji’s kindergartens that serve children ages 3 to 6, seminars and dialogues with Anji’s early educators, and facilitated discussions with fellow participants to share experiences and insights.
We will visit kindergartens across the county, ranging from large programs (500+ children) in small urban areas to smaller programs (less than 10 children) in rural villages. We will have extended time to observe the practice of Anji Play and learn from and with children at the schools we visit. You will have the chance to build connections with colleagues who share a commitment to love, risk, joy, engagement and reflection in the lives of young children.
Above all, we will have the chance to experience how the educational practice of Anji Play grows from love and how children, schools, families and communities embrace the right to True Play creatively, constructively, and joyfully.

:: ANJI UPDATE ::
Today marks the kick-off of The Ministry of Education's month-long national initiative to promote the values of "self-determined play" in all public and private ECE programs across China. The month will start with a series of major meetings and an exhibition about the history and principles of Anji Play in Anji. The meetings, exhibition and tour of Anji's kindergartens will be attended by the directors of ECE from every Chinese province and the Ministry of Education. These events also mark the beginning of the third, and last, three-year phase to bring national ECE standards and practices in line with the principle that true, self-determined play should be the fundamental activity in ECE programs in China (ages 3-6), and that elementary schools, through curricular reform, should accommodate playful joyous children as they matriculate. The next series of official documents and guidelines setting this national direction will be discussed and determined over the next two days in Anji against the backdrop of the joyous schools and children, and the educational ecology of love that Anji Play represents. We are honored to have been part of the planning, design and implementation of this groundbreaking exhibition and hope it grows and travels over the coming months and years. We send our love and congratulations to Ms. Cheng and the dedicated community of educators and families in Anji.

“Weeks after my experiences in Anji, "joy" is the word that continues to be at the forefront of my thinking.* The amounts of joy present in the children, teachers, staff, families and all others is remarkable. Since returning home from Anji, I have tried to inject that type of joy into my own teaching practice, but still have so much to learn. I feel honored to have been able to experience true joy in Anji and I wish all educators had a chance to experience these magical schools.” -Krystina Tapia, Lead Teacher, The Primary School *In October, we spent five days together visiting nine schools. Each morning at breakfast we took time to discuss our plans for the day and reflect on the day before. We also invited our group to approach that day’s observations and experiences through a lens. Five days, five lenses: love, risk, joy, engagement, reflection. The joy in the kindergartens of Anji is moving and subtle and true. We are excited to follow how these experiences and expressions of joy enrich Krystina’s practice. (Photo: @akatoptop)
