Ba3b: Week 15
This week was dedicated to the degree show build, cleaning, maintaining and clearing the degree show spaces ready for installation of works next week. I spent a few days of the week painting the walls of my space as they are rather tall and wide so are taking longer than expected. However, I spent a day just getting my split batons and boards right, I used one split baton with drilled holes as a template for the rest to keep everything uniform and level, although I did struggle a little with putting the other ½ of the split baton on the board with glue, as it kept slipping, in the end, I used a nail gun to give it extra hold.

Ba3b: Week 14
My Boards for the degree show were completed this week, so I went ensure they were all the right size and shape and shall be attaching the split batons to the backs on Wednesday next week. I have also ordered my images on Matt White high tac vinyl along with the instructions and profile description which will be on low-tac vinyl so they are easy to remove and move around. Unfortunately, I ordered both the images at 37.1 cm X 37.1 cm so it will have to be very precise when I place them on the boards, if I was to do this degree show again I would probably put the vinyl at 40cm to allow edge on either side to tidy up later.

Ba3b: Week 13
Today I have been finalising and confirming the size of my MDF boards and my space ready for the degree show. As Instagram is online I have had to copy it into Photoshop in pixels then line up all the feeds, convert that into inches then add it into a copy of my degree show space to see how it measures up in inches, this has then been changed into cm for the 3D workshop MDF Boards and the Media Suite in Guntons. I had to find a common denominator for the pixels to convert it to inches, eventually, 20 went into the majority of figures and the other that were uneven have been rounded up so hopefully, the measurements should still work against each other.

Ba3b: Week 12
I tried to catch up on any work I missed last week this week, I managed to find two books through recommendations online to use as research. I have chosen Capture Your Style by Aimee Song ( a successful Instagram star and blogger) and Read This, If You Want To Be Instagram Famous by Henry Carroll. As these books have a bit more depth to them than a post online it allows me to see the in's and out's of Instagram in more detail. In particular, Capture Your Style goes into detail about Instagram styling and Etiquette which is less talked about in blog posts which have been very helpful in taking my own images for the show.

Ba3b: Week 11
This week I was unable to get much work done as I had gone to an Opticians appointment earlier in the week and they had sent me to A&E which took up the day, then later on in the week I was sent as emergency to the Ophthalmologist who dilated my eyes (leaving me unable to see any work) diagnosed me with Papilledema and then I was sent straight to Hospital and kept overnight for testing. This was very much unexpected and continues to be ongoing, however, I am hoping it does not affect my work of degree show piece too negatively.

Ba3b: Week 10
I have started working on my sketchbook more this week as we have come into Easter so I will not be in Norwich to order pieces’ etcetera. I have been struggling to find any historical research or books to use as research/references for my piece. As Instagram is still relatively new it’s expected to not have much material surrounding it. I have read a few blog posts of the new algorithms and videos on how bloggers keep to a theme to support my research but I need to find something with a bit more substance to use.

Ba3b: Week 9
I’ve started to look closer into materials after my curation meeting, a fellow student suggested to me I used split batons to hang my work which would effectively allow people to move around each board easily and safely and it is rather easy to instal tool. As I am new to 2D work I want something that is easy enough to learn which will still give me time to work on my actual degree show piece. I visited the 3D workshop and a fist we thought about MDF Backing with acrylic to seal the image on top, however, we realised it would be too heavy and ruin the aesthetic so we settled on using 6mm MDF Boards with 9mm Split Batons

Ba3b: Week 8
This week was Strategies which included talks from Marcus Dickey Horley, Nell Croose Myhill and Alan Kane. Compared to the Dialogues a couple of weeks back, I really enjoyed these talks, I found them to be inspiring and interesting. There was some more talk about curation and audience which are both subjects very prevalent throughout my own practice. It was particularly interesting hearing from Marcus about the history of the Tate Galleries and how they are used in the Modern Day compared to when they were first established too along with how they plan and curate the galleries and shows held there.

Ba3b: Week 7
At the briefing today we were made aware that we needed professional documentation of the degree show to hand in on assessment on the 19th May. All of my work, however, is in my sketchbook, it is a little untidy but I feel the professional documentation may just be there to summarise the information already there. I think I will take a few images from my piece along with the core information about the makings and idea behind my piece to add into my documentation, however, I am unsure of what else I would put in there to bulk up the file.

Ba3b: Week 6
I attended Dialogues this week where the speakers were Gen Doy, Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva and Peter Nencini (and Adriana Minoliti, however, she was unable to attend), as per most years I struggled to really engage and enjoy the talks and discussions afterwards. I have found every so often artist talks really inspire and interest me but unfortunately, I did not feel very inspired by the artists this week. It’s very likely as my practice is quite streamlined, that I only really get excited by other artists that do similar work to me (maybe as they are rarer than most).

Ba3b: Week 5
Today's briefing was all about pricing for the degree show, I had not yet thought about whether I wanted to sell my work during the show. I wonder if anyone would want to buy it? Would it lose the main idea behind it, if it just sat in an office somewhere? I’ve started to form an idea of having an Instagram-style feed on boards and wonder whether it would be better to have several different prices to be sold individually or as a whole piece? I doubt the whole piece would sell but there is more likelihood singular or a few could be easier to sell.

Ba3b: Week 4
This week, as directed study week, was to allow our pieces to develop and take form. I had been un sure what direction I wanted to take my Instagram feed idea. Finally, being allocated my degree show space helped significantly, I had thought about doing a singular Instagram feed with the profile at the top of the piece, for this I would need a tall but narrow space, however when given our spaces mine was considerably wider than expected. It felt wrong to do such a small piece in such a large space. So I have thought about two feed to the right-hand side of the original to let me play with more images but also to fill up the space more.

Ba3b: Week 3
We had a briefing this week on Health and Safety and Electronics Equipment and I am still unsure on whether to perhaps broadcast a live video on top on the Instagram feed I have an idea for, or perhaps to show a projection of editing a photo for Instagram? I know I would like the piece to be interactive however I am unsure Health and Safety wise what this would entail as getting the public involved always brings a lot of risks. People dropping the pieces, the piece not being put back right, but as it is unpredictable it will take time to think about every possibility.

Photo

In Week two I started working on extensions of my previous work by looking at the reality behind the image. Although these images are perfected, edited and only a cropped picture of the whole environment and situation, what happens if we examine the big picture? (see attached) It shows a dark side of the reality of a persona online, the small spot of light and perfection among cluttered, dingy and dark spaces. I am also planning into how people online create a consistent presence online, they not only project a perfect lifestyle through Instagram but on all other platforms too.

Ba3b: Week 1
As this is the first week of Ba3b I wanted to take the time to go through my last Assessment Feedback to take note of my good points to continue on into Ba3b and the bad points that need some improvement that I can work on to improve my grade in the next unit. I noticed there were comments on what I wanted to say with the profile, what are the problems I need to address which is something I want to look further into this term, as I unsure if there is a clear message I want to get across yet.
