I have never known who or what I am supposed to be. The only thing I know for sure, is that I am supposed to be more than I have been.

People now are like, “Your right to free speech doesn’t mean you can express an offensive opinion” Like what the fuck does right to free speech mean, then?

We worship perfection because we can’t have it; if we had it, we would reject it. Perfection is inhuman, because humanity is imperfect.

I hate my job.... x10
I’ve been a teacher for years, and it has always been challenging but nothing as bad as today.
I’ve seen kids and teens bully others, disrespect other teachers and me, use terribly agressive language, fight each other... I’ve had students who were victims of domestic violence and with mentall health issues... It gets worse everyday and it bothers me that I’ve started to feel numb towards all the agression and violence.
I’ve been studying and considering changing my career, because I don’t want to become one of those frustated teachers who see students as just numbers and have no simpathy for them, but I’m starting to understand that for some people it’s just a mecanism of defense. Sometimes I want to just give up, but I like teaching and I can’t just quit my ‘safe’ job, specially with the way the economy is right now.
And then, today happened. I was feeling sick, but I didn’t want to miss work because this school is in a dangerous neighbourhood and the students had several days without classes due to safety issues. So I went, and one of my problematic students started to disturb the class, throwing paperballs and making silly comments, and creating a terrible environment. I had to ask him to leave the class, which he wouldn’t, so I had to leave and ask for help. He eventually left, but came back a few minutes later, with a knife.
A fucking KNIFE!
I told him to leave and once again he didn’t, even asking me if I was going to get him out of the class now. I acted like I wasn’t worried or affected and since there was no one in the hall, I left to find someone. I didn’t really think about leaving him there, because it all happened really fast, but in some level I felt he was only a threat to me. He followed me, and as I was walking down the stairs, I started to feel worried an walk faster. He stopped following me or I was fast to get to a place full of people, and I informed the situation.
Because of the neighbourhood the school is in (very poor, abandoned by the governement, and with control disputed between a militia and drug dealers), I didn’t call the police. He would probably be severely beaten and get a criminal record, but something worse - fatal - could happen, and I would feel guilty. His father was called by the principal, and he apologized for his son, said the would be severe, and told us his really difficult life story and that he never disrespected any teacher in the short time he had the opportunity to study. He also talked about the dangers of the militia, and a lot that I just couldn’t process at that point.
The student will probably be spelled. I’m not sure. Other teachers say he used to be a really nice boy, so they may intervene. I dont’t know if I should quit. It’s unfair, and the other students would not get a substitute teacher. At the same time, I feel like it doesn’t really make a difference for them if I’m there or not.
I just feel hopeless and tired.

It’s life that matters, nothing but life–the process of discovering, the everlasting and perpetual process, not the discovery itself, at all.

But the 8-hour workday is too profitable for big business, not because of the amount of work people get done in eight hours (the average office worker gets less than three hours of actual work done in 8 hours) but because it makes for such a purchase-happy public. Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. We’ve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don’t have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is still missing.
