My favorite thing that’s ever happened in an art class is that this weird pen artist (who was notorious for a) drawing body horror and b) bringing bananas to class in the front pocket of his shirt) was once like “wait let me draw you” and proceeded to sketch the most fucked up charicature you’ve ever seen. He told me I had serial killer eyes and a nose that “looked too much like a nose”

so I was listening to music and got this message… at first I assumed that my boyfriend sent the wrong person a message asking for toilet paper, but when i got up to bring him some i saw his phone on the bed and realizedÂ
he left his phone in the room and only took his switch with him, so all he could do was desperately tweet an SOS

if i see one more person say yeah he was apparently racist :/ when asked what prince philip “did” im gonna go insane lmao it’s not a matter of one-off problematic™️ moments from some random old white man — this dude presided over the most powerful, brutal, and racist colonial power on earth for decades. thats why we’re celebrating now and thats why we’ll continue to celebrate every time one of these crusty little british royals finally kicks it. read a book im begging

Reagan-era "stranger danger" panic has done so much harm to americans' sense of community. It cemented the idea that only the nuclear family could be trusted with the care of the child, deterred people from cooperative living with an extended community, and continues to place abuse victims in danger by perpetuating the misconception that most child abuse is done by strangers rather than someone they know. It is in our best interest to become more interdependent than we were raised to be.

you might not agree but part of activism is knowing to choose your battles, because what do i care if my eighty year old grandma doesn’t know the exact correct terms to refer to lgbtq+ identities as long as she supports and respects everyone, what do i care about the old man in the almacén that isn’t online so he doesn’t know every aspect of feminism who told me happy women’s day when he understands the issues women are put through and supports the fight, I’d rather be met with truly kind and concerned ppl who care and have been in this fight far more time than us than all these articulate young people who at the end of the day don’t truly give a shit

“In my poetry class, I’ve always had students memorize something, a few things. I feel that if they’ve forgotten everything I’ve said, if they haven’t written anything down all semester and just stared out the window, at least they’ll come away with a poem memorized.
So one day, years ago, I was on the subway in New York, and a guy across the aisle kept kind of looking at me and finally he came over and said he recognized me as his teacher. I’d taught him about 10 years before that, or more. He’d since become an oncologist, and I congratulated him on his success. Then he said, “You made us memorize a poem.” And I said, “Yes.” And he said, “I’d like to say that poem for you.”
And it was a little poem by Emily Dickinson that he’d carried in his head, and maybe in his heart, for all those years. Over the roar of the 6 train, he yelled that poem in my ear, and I think it was probably the most satisfying pedagogical experience I’ve ever had.” -Billy Collins, in a conversation
