The finished grecian inspired ensemble! It’s inspired by statues from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The costume consists of a chiton, belt, crown, and skirt. The chiton is made from satin faced chiffon and sewn at the shoulder. The stitching is hidden with sequined covered buttons.
The crown and belt are made from felt weight interfacing that is covered with chiffon and embellished with sequins and beads. The belt closes with metal clasps. The skirt is made from linen and is there for modesty more than anything else since the chiton fabric is a bit sheer!
I had a specific vision in mind for this, and I chose to follow that more than historically accuracy (thus the fabric choices) but I did do a good amount of research for this. The only part i’m unhappy with is the length (it’s too long) but that’s easy to fix.
Overall I really like it! And it’s really comfortable to wear, which is a nice change from my other historical costumes. Construction notes are here!

No, I’m serious, if women all got together and went into electrical engineering or automotive repair en masse, then ten years later people would be talking about how it was a “soft field” and it would pay proportionately less than other fields.
Likewise, if men moved en masse to bedeck themselves in sparkles and make-up, then suddenly you’d get a bunch of editorials talking about how classy they look.
None of these things are inherently masculine or feminine; none of these things inherently elevate you or drag you down. But whatever women are seen to do is automatically seen as being inherently more frivolous than anything men do. And shaming women for not pigeonholing themselves into a narrow range of acceptable “masculine” behaviours is just going to result in the goalposts getting moved once again.

tbh i’m really tired of natasha romanoff being characterized as this cold, emotionless person who the rest of the avengers would never mess with like were you even watching the same movies i was??????????
natasha is a giant goober who quotes nerd movies and makes lame dad jokes about fossils, who’s first response to meeting steve’s new friend is “everyone we know is trying to kill us,” who tries to get her lame friend dates while simultaneously murdering neo-nazis, whose idea of a dramatic entrance is popping bubblegum. she’s visibly pained when nick didn’t trust her to know he wasn’t dead, she was terrified that she was looking death in the face after the winter soldier shot her again, and she was moved when steve told her he’d trust her to have his back. she sassed a bunch of politicians on capitol hill, she pepper sprayed a peon in the face when she could’ve easily dismembered him, she was vulnerable in front of demi-god and tricked a trickster, she gave her jacket to wanda even after everything that happened, and she keeps an arrow on her necklace to remind her of clint.
assassin or not, natasha is a sincere, witty, goofy woman and she’s way more interesting than the tropes she’s holed into.

The Perfect Explanation of Privilege – In One Powerful Punchline
“The Pencilsword” is a comic strip by Toby Morris, an illustrator from New Zealand. His most recent comic, “On a Plate” hits hard at the heart of the issues of concerning wealth and privilege.
How many times have you heard the “I’ve never been handed anything on a platter” argument in regard to social security and other social benefits?
Toby wrecks this argument by showing how two children can grow up, be loved and supported, and yet still have two very different outcomes.
Make sure to follow all the way to the end for the powerful punchline. This comic is an increasingly sad reality for far too many of this nation’s children and families.
