TW rape

it took me years to realize that my ex raped me. that waking up to someone having sex with you and not being able to say no because you’re inebriated constitutes being raped. that someone choking you or pinning you down when you have explicitly asked them not to is not “no big deal.” 

i stopped having flashbacks and panic attacks a long time ago but it occurred to me yesterday that no one knows that this happened to me except my boyfriend and like one or two close friends. none of my family knows. 

when this occurred to me yesterday i was like... why? why have i kept this secret all these years when i have nothing to be ashamed of? i want people to know that this really affected me. so i told my sister yesterday. that felt nice.
