Great read! While this article states the opinions of the oppressors, it tastefully rebukes their arguments and offers some just insight. I really enjoyed how Gibson found a way to mention a Dr. King quote in there, “the question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be. Will we be extremists for hate or for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice or for the extension of justice?” Martin is absolutely correct. One should be able to practice his or her faith freely with out being persecuted, but we cannot justify hate as faith. America cannot tolerate prejudice and radical conservative leaders cannot continue to excuse Kim Davis’s behavior.

So let us be clear: This woman is no hero to be celebrated. She broke her oath to uphold the Constitution and defied a court order so she could deny government services to couples who are legally entitled to be married.

GOP Debate
In last night’s JV republican debate, the topic of Kim Davis came up. The responses from the candidates, including Pataki, Santorum, and Jindal, were somewhat mixed, but most of them sided with Davis. To shed some hope, Pataki stated that he would have fired her and she needed to uphold the law. However, Santorum went as far as declaring that the Supreme Court ruling was “unconstitutional”.  Exactly where in the Constitution does it state that marriage equality goes against the fundamentals of US government?  Exactly how, Rick, can you say that Kim Davis VIOLATING a federal law is unconstitutional? How close-minded can these political figures become?

“Kim Davis didn't save a life this week. The Pope just may have helped save thousands.”
It’s interesting how Kim Davis and all of her supporters believe she’s brining religious justice to America as she refuses to approval homosexual marriage licenses. If Kim Davis considers herself to be a devout Catholic and rigorously follows her religious practices, how come she isn’t phased by the words of her Pope? How come she isn’t using her faith to spread goodness? In the week of Kim’s trail, Pope Francis asked all Catholic parish in Europe to invite one migrant family into their home and care. Pope Francis uses his faith to spread benevolence and the common good, while Kim Davis uses it to advocate prejudice. One may use their religion, specifically Christianity, to promote goodness and acceptance, while in so many countries around the world we see it provoke hate crimes.

That being said... homophobia and bigotry are not Christian values, and no person who is truly following Christ would ever be homophobic or bigoted.

Homophobia
This whole ordeal with Kim Davis? It would be unjust to detain someone for simply carrying out his or her religious practices, but how can we classify homophobia as a religious belief? It is a severe form of prejudice, just like racism, sexism, etc. It is inexcusable. Mike Hukabee, a 2016 presidential candidate with a significant amount of followers, stated “Kim Davis should have never been locked up for being a Christian and for following her conscience and the law”. It’s 2015 America. How disconnected can these conservative leaders get? Yes, in America we have religious freedom, but we cannot classify homophobia as a religious practice.
