Taryn has been working behind-the-scenes to market our books to schools, and this year, she will be crafting our overall strategy to expand our marketing and publicity outreach. We are so lucky to work with this warm and generous educational professional. She also makes 🔥 reels at @tarynjwrites! More about Taryn: From the beginning of her career, Taryn knew she wanted to spend her days surrounded by children. Over the course of ten years, she advanced from a middle school English teacher to the role of an assistant principal at a charter school in her area. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric and a master's degree in Educational Leadership. Her years as an educator have been filled with milestones and memories, which helped her identify the importance of early literacy. Now as an Education Consultant, Taryn finds joy in supporting schools to target their specific needs with her unique coaching style. On a recent trip to her local bookstore, Taryn shared a moment with her daughter that validated her passion for expanding school bookshelves to include culturally relevant text. Her six-year-old daughter, Kenzi, was elated to see so many culturally driven picture books and said “Mom, look at all of the brown skin girls. They look just like me!”. Taryn resides in Port St. Lucie, Florida with her partner in parenting crime, Will. They have two children, Chase and Kenzi, not to mention a variety of furry and scaly animal friends. The artwork in KESAR AND THE LULLABY BIRDS is a special collaboration between illustrator @debasmitadasgupta and author @theorangepaisley. Embedded in the fabric and decor are carefully researched motifs and traditional craftwork Scroll to see a sneak peek👉🏽 ・・・ From Aditi: Folk art in India ranges from creating paintings, pottery, mudwork, weaving, embroidery, beading, metalwork, leatherwork and so much more! If given a choice, I would like to spend my time traveling across India visiting the homes and workshops of different folk artisans, observe them work, see their art materials, listen to their stories, learn their craft and have chai with them. The extensive research process behind Kesar and the Lullaby Birds, gave me this opportunity in its own special way. I got to learn about the history, practice and cultural significance of several folk art elements. The few research papers that I referenced were written by the students and professors of NID.
