My first experience in shifting was about a year ago and made me question everything I ever believed in.
To make things clear, I was shifting to Hogwarts in my fourth year I believe. I was a Gryffindor transfer student from Koldovstvorets - Russian school of witchcraft - and had a messed up family tree, which resulted in me being semi-immune to fire.
As all people did back then, I used Raven method - which, to be honest, didn’t quite worked for me, although it did the trick. As I was counting from 1 to 100, I felt sun rays warm my face - in cr it was the middle of the night - I then opened my eyes to see a clear blue sky before me. At first I was freaking out, but forced myself to calm down as I already had had the experience of being “kicked out” out of dr because of it. I then saw a three under which I woke up and the Black lake; I stood up and made my way to the nearest entrance to the castle. There I met Biuca (Биюка// my friend-navigator throughout the castle) she explained to me, that I had a potions class going on and that I had to hurry. She escorted me through completely empty hallways to the dungeons where the potions class was, I entered the room only to see that the lesson was in full swing. Surprisingly, Snape didn’t say anything about it and didn’t even took points from our house. I sat down in an empty seat in the second row, right next to Draco - he, on the other hand, did mention me being late and said something about my gryffindor arrogance.
Fortunately, by then it was time for a practice: we had to brew amortentia. We all got up and, as everyone already knew everyone and had their own groups on this lesson, I was kinda left out. Snape made me work with Harry and Ron - they weren’t happy about it though; tbh, I wasn’t either as they are the worst possible people to be in a group with on potions as they know absolute nothing about anything.
As for me, I scripted to be a some sort of genius in potions, so I had no problem doing everything by myself - i was in pure shock when my conscious gave out names of ingredients, the proportions to put them in the cauldron and the whole mixing-slicing-brewing process. As the process went on, amortentia required one final ingredient - pink-ish sparkly dust, that explodes with fire if being warmed. You had to have special gloves to prevent your body heat from reaching the dust, and a long spoon. As I said before - I was immune to any fire and it’s heat, so I boldly scooped the dust with my bare hand.
Of course, it burst into flames, covering my whole arm down to the elbow: Ron and Harry were petrified. As they stood there, eyes wide, I put the dust into our cauldron and continued to stir the substance with my other hand. The fire soon went out as I shook my hand.
- don’t you feel anything? - Harry was first to ask
- of course I don’t. it’s my special power: I’m immune to fire. See? - and I put my hand in the fire of a burner under the cauldron.
It was all fun and games until I started to faint again: my vision went black and when it cleared again, I stood bent over, hands holding my head as if I had a severe headache. The first time went almost unnoticed, as the boys were busy with identifying the smell of a completed amortentia potion. The second time I fainted, I opened my eyes and saw all the students in class and Snape himself looking at me with mixed expressions on their faces. Snape asked Hermione to take me to the hospital wing.
As we were going up the stairs from dungeons, I felt my vision blurry again. I called for Hermione, who was standing a few steps ahead of me.
- im fainting. - was the last thing I said before my vision went black. In the last moments I saw her starting to run towards me.
It was quite an odd experience.
