Hey you, yeah you! Do you have long hair? Is it thin? Frizzy? Easily knotted? Then this post is for you! It’s time for….

HAIR CARE TIPS AND TRICKS!

Much of this comes from my personal experience as someone who only started growing out my hair about two years ago.

First of all: haircuts

“But I’m growing it out, why would I want to cut it?” Well, trimming just an inch or two can make a huge difference in how neat your hair can look, especially since the relative lengths of hair from various parts of your head are very different with short vs long hair. Also, if you haven’t had a haircut in a while, your hair will be much thinner and have a lot of split ends near the bottom and evening things out can drastically improve your luscious locks. Also, if they offer a shampooing at the hairdresser, it may not be a bad idea to decline, as I find it usually just leaves my hair a frizzy mess.

Next: brushing

Getting a good hairbrush and brushing your hair at least once a day can make a huge difference. If you’re a man, don’t get one of those brushes “FOR MEN” because they are usually a lot worse than something marketed towards women. Brushing your hair in the morning, before you go to bed, and especially after you shower will decrease the difficulty of brushing overall as well as reducing the likelihood of knots forming. Also brushing after you’ve been wearing a hat or helmet or if you’ve had your hair up in some manner can help a lot as well.

Third: showering and hair products

Unless you have very oily hair, using shampoo every time you shower is probably a mistake. Generally, you should only be using shampoo every 3-5 days and just washing your hair with water every other time you shower. Using too much shampoo is also a mistake a lot of people make, this can strip all of the natural oils out of your hair which help to keep it healthy and looking nice. Using conditioner is also important every time you shampoo. If your hair is still frizzy, I would recommend using some sort of leave-in conditioner, either after showers or in the morning. For this you can either look for a dedicated product or find a conditioner that can be used both in the shower and as a leave-in.

Finally: finding what works for you

Everyone has different hair and these are just rough guidelines. The best advice I can give in this regard is just to try things out and see what works for you.
