I think about the first half of this very often. This is such a varied data set that I don't even know what conclusion he's trying to draw from it, maybe just general knowledge about fear. But this isn't learning, it's research. He's got the qualitative research, but the quantitative research is scattered, to say the least. I'm making very little sense.
My personal headcanon is that he knows that other scientists are going to make case studies on the specifics of the fear toxin and actually get published, and he's just gonna read that and go ":) I am contributing to the sciences :)"
I love how one of Jonathan’s main reasons for being a villain is for the sake of collecting research on fear bc. Like. What’s his end goal!!! Even if he did collect enough data, what’s he going to do? Publish it? With what journal? I think he committed at least two or three ethic violations.
And the other reason why he does this shit is because he was made fun of by his peers and like!! Girlie!!! Ppl aren’t laughing at u bc U were skinny they’re laughing because you’ll never become an accomplished scholar with these data retrieval methods!!!

I don't mean to be a joykill but this is very fascinating to me so I'll explain it anyways. I That's really not how the brain work in terms of inheritance. Depression, anxiety and other brain disorders wherein you see variation in amygdala size get transferred genetically because they activate certain genes (5-HT serotonin regulators specifically). These genes activate based on environmental factors, but there is a substantial genetic predisposition there. What Crane has is changes in his brain mass not due to genes or his own biology, but purely environmental factors (the delicious fear!). The baby couldn't inherit his weird amygdala variations (environmental factors through which it could is if it's exposed to it prenatally or just after it's born)
Honestly I think it'd be fucking hilarious if a Crane spawn was born with a numbed amygdala or resistance to his toxin because of his own exposure and whatnot
A baby without fear is a dead baby! The wee cunt will be swinging off the rafters like a fucking spider monkey and trying to steal his fathers car keys to go speeding about in the Fearmobile with the other freakish children.

dc made a character who's part mad scientist obsessed with his area of study, part freddy-kruegeresque horror movie villain with a halloweeny aesthetic, and part bitter old boomer who hates everything and they decide to put him in NOTHING . preposterous .
