A PSA ABOUT BLACKLISTING TAGS IN THE RPC.

there are a lot of things people need trigger tagged in our community, from g*ore to other harmful images, or nsfw content in general. a lot of people put in the effort to tag these things for others to blacklist for their comfort and safety, but i don't think we all understand how blacklisting/filtering tags really works.

REMEMBER THIS: THE SIMPLER THE TAG, THE BETTER.

let's say i want to filter/blacklist horror content as an example. i use tumblr's filtering system or xkit's blacklist system. i add these tags to my list to hide them, as these are pretty common ones for the rpc to use:

∙ horror tw ∙ horror / ∙ horror // ∙ horror for ts ∙ horror

people on the dash, however, are using trigger tags like this:

∙ ( horror tw ) . ∙ horror // blood tag ∙ ( ** horror ) ∙ gore tag / horror tw. ∙ the blood of the ancients / horror

these will not be caught by my filter. regardless of whether or not the word is in the tags, THE FILTER ONLY CATCHES THE EXACT WORDING, SPACING, AND CHARACTERS. that means someone who is triggered by horror will have to know your tag and add it and all the correct spacing and punctuation to their filter. and they have to do this for every single unique tag they see on the dash.

when it comes to trigger tags, THE SIMPLER, THE BETTER. trigger tags are not the time to be super *aesthetic* and add tons of spaces, punctuation, and other characters, because they will not be caught by the people who need them the most.

also keep in mind that double or triple spacing messes it up EVEN MORE, so don't use excessive spacing in your filter tags.

no one is forcing you to do this if you don't want to, but this is the kind thing to do. if you want to ensure your blog is a comfortable place for your friends, please keep in mind their triggers, or just general triggers all around like "nsfw" and simplify your tags as much as possible. it's not a hassle to simply add 'horror tw' to the tag of your newest post. limit the wording, the spacing, the punctuation, and maybe make a PSA of your own about all the specific tags you use so people can filter them accordingly.

Not everybody enjoys running their blog this way and that's a-okay. But removing the idea that RP interactions are something that can "expire" or that the asks in your inbox have an unspoken "due-date", takes the pressure off of both your partners and yourself and can help bust feelings of stress/anxiety from the hobby. Reblog to let your partners know that you're just jazzed to receive new writing from them, whenever it comes.

Alastor turned his head at a flash of motion from inside before he was face to face with a modern television. He looked Vox over. He hadn't dressed any differently than he normally did, but he was curious to see if the other demon had.

"Yes, it appears we both arrived early." Seeing as he didn't see Vox arrive and head inside, it was safe to assume he had shown up even earlier than him. "I suppose there's no reason to stand out here in the open. I assume you already have a table?"

Alastor gave a short bow to the camera and headed off in the direction of the hotel. He had enough air for the day.

When he got back to the hotel, he made some black tea and closed himself off in his room. He could tell the few residents who saw him could tell he was sick, but a dark look from him and they didn't say anything.

The week of recovery was long and wasn't without its tribulations, but halfway through the next week, he was feeling better and his fever had gone away completely. By Friday, he was nearly fighting fit, luckily good enough to see Vox.

At 5:45 Friday evening, Alastor approached the agreed upon restaurant, feeling out the atmosphere of the place. Upon deciding he was in the right place, he took a spot standing by the front door. A smiling statue with a frightening shadow, he scared off a few prospective patrons and terrified those exiting.

I think Al has a bad habit of not really wanting to sleep. This results in him falling asleep doing things. Mostly this looks like him falling asleep in his radio tower instead of his bed bc that like the one place he feels safe enough to do so.
