Ukemi (Quadrature of the circle) are seven rubbings on aquarelle paper . They are floating off the east wall of the first space. Throughout the seven panels of this single work, the narrative of the legend of Ara and Semiramis (800BC) is explored through the characters being portrayed as a square and a circle. The circle within the square becomes smaller, leaving the square which in turn becomes four layered lines. FREEWORK is composed of nine monumental prints hanging from the ceiling, off the wall. The work is suspended from wood newspaper holders. Mineral details of the 1899 painting of Vardges Surynantes, Ara the Beautiful, found in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Armenia, are the subject matter of this work. The panels are scaled and fade in and out of the space empahsizing on the south west corner. A revelation of the anthropomorphic shape of the minerals of the oil appears at the 225 degrees corner of the gallery space. The works are 98cm wide respecting the original width of the work. The height varies from six to one meter. E pluribus unum is a sculpture on the museum floor. It is composed of 24 handmade copper trays each containing rocks from armenia’s higgest mountain Mount Aragaz. This mineral on which Ara was in battle in these 24 trays are regrouped into groups of four making six square shaped modular trays which are placed as a reflection of the Ara star constellation facing to the sky. On April 6th, the death day of Vardges Surynantes, the candles placed within the rock copper filled trays have been lite by a peformance of the spectators. These candles are the only light source in the space.
