Week 6: Color Scheme

Finally working with colors in 2-D Design

This week I had to go back and choose 3 of my old pieces I made in class, then re do them and apply a type of color scheme!

I used colored pencil for all of them, but a combo of alcohol markers and colored pencil for the first one ↓

Tetradic: 4 colors on the color wheel selected in a rectangle so there is 2 sets of complimentary colors and it creates a vibrant and balanced color pallette (I chose Lime Green and Red-Orange, then Magenta and Blue)

Analogus: 4 colors on a color wheel that are directly next to each other (Mine are Yellow, Green, Teal, and Blue)

Monochromatic: A color pallette where you choose one color but you use a tint (main color + white), shade (main color + black), and/or tone (main color + grey), to add variation. I tried to go for a sepia filter (the kind you use on photos) color scheme with a reddish brown.

Finished Reloryth! I think I need to just get Tumblr on my iPad for posting bc the colors are way off and the noise is strong, but I'm really happy with how he came out (took 7 hours). Feel free to draw him as well! (The signature of his name at the top left is what I imagined his signature would be for his fans 💚) Expect some more practice in the future!

No speed paint this time bc I when I was showing the sketch to my family, it flipped upside down, so I went and flipped the canvas right side up in app. So half of the video is "upside down" (supposed to be right side up) and the other half I'm drawing "right side up" (technically upside down), and it's confusing so, yeah.

Week 5: Notan project

Notan is a Japanese style of art that plays with the contrast between light and dark to create balance.

Drafts ↓ (ignore the screwdriver, I broke my glasses and had to fix them)

To put it simply, we took a 5x5 piece of paper, made a design that could be cut out (reminded me of making snowflakes but instead of folding paper for symmetry, we used an exacto knife on flat paper), then flipped those cut out pieces to create a new design. (Hope that makes sense, easier to do than explain 🎀)

I had 4 designs but we could only have 2 chosen. (And they just so happened to be the ones I liked the most)

WIP of a Drow Bard I designed in a Picrew by @crowesn , so I could play him in BG3. Week 3 2-D Design "Shape Simplification."

I had to make a Still Life then gradually simplify it into its most important forms.

I chose my Zebra Haworthia (named Sussybaka because it had a weird flower stalk when I first got it lol) and 2 of my shells from the beach for visual interest and arranged them like so ↓

Still life, turns into Light and Shadows only.

Shadows turn into Silhouettes and mild identifying features, which turn into shape language only while still evoking the original drawing.

Sketches (Professor had to pick 4 so then I could make 4x4 drafts) (I'm glad he didn't mention I accidentally made the sketched 3x3 bc I measured wrong... 6 times...and nobody said anything...(not that I expect them to, this is college😭)
