John Hammond (blues musician extraordinaire) performing at The Towne Crier Cafe, Beacon NY
Sat. 11.9.13
john hammond is a force. he can play the blues like nobody's business and he's got some great tales of his life in the music world for the past 52 years. our first time at Towne Crier. Nice place. Good layout (ie everyone can see). Good sound (ie not too loud).
The Tall Weeds in Woodstock, NY. Song: Raging Waters.
Lotsa bonfire parties this year! That’s what country folk do in Hudson Valley, NY. I’m just an ex-urban girl lucky enough to partake. Last Saturday’s bonfire party was a local promoter’s birthday party / Halloween party. Big fire, tree stumps for chairs, and a nice outdoor stage. Spiv U:K followed the Tall Weeds set. Was like a nightclub actually.
(we saw them at Riverfest in Beacon NY, heard on WDST Woodstock Radio that they were playing at The Falcon, and made a date night out of it. great idea! this band makes you shake your booty! "brazilian bluegrass," is the genre they call it)
The Tall Weeds performing original song "Valley". I dig it. Check out the harmonica solo at 2:15....I also love the part where they sing SHELTER! in unison @ 3:20, & when Patrick hits the high note around 4:05, and the jam at the end. Love this song.
at the Root Note, New Paltz NY Friday june 14, 2013
I frickin love this band. (I love ALO, CRB, and The Tall Weeds. Earthy Rock that makes me dance. That's what it is.)
Totally worth the trip out of the city. (But Dear FTC, get rid of all the chairs next time you have ALO there -- barely any floor space to get a groove on!!)
“Rock ‘n’ roll is everybody’s fucking music…I would certainly hope that it’s the devil’s music, but it’s not just the devil’s music. I think that’s where God and the devil shake hands – right there.”
(this is my fave band in NY...reminds me of the other bands I love, which come from Cali for the most part, so I'm a happy camper having found this vibe in NY State...earthy, dancey rock.....and did I mention that I can't get enough of Patrick Reay....big big love)
So much fun at "In the Pines" in Beacon, NY last night for Stephen Clair's Local 845 event. Perfect venue: a board and batten barn with a stone chimney and built-in stage. Great music by five local bands, cool people (lots of NYC transplants), deelish Flamm (pizza type food).
