Chapter 11 (ItaFushi Quotes) The one where Yuji misses Megumi
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
He ran to his room, Sukuna’s cruel words echoing in his mind: Weak. So disgustingly weak. The moment he shut the door, he slid to the floor, pressing his back against it. Hugging his bent legs, he buried his face in his knees. He felt like a little kid again. Megumi’s absence had unearthed things he thought he’d buried long ago.
If he could have cried Megumi back, he would have, for there was less water in rivers carrying far bigger ships.
---
Yuji had thought everything would be fine when Megumi told him back at the hotel that he hadn’t done anything wrong, that he wouldn’t lose him. And it wasn’t as if Yuji had believed him right away, like Gojo had said. He wanted to—god, he wanted to—but something still felt off. He’d tried to reassure Megumi, telling him not to worry about whatever was going on with Nobara. Their friendship would always come first, he’d said.
And still, Megumi left.
Did those who left you teach you how to leave?
---
Nobara grabbed her laptop and opened a folder labeled Weekend Trip, Tokyo: The Boys.
“Tell me, what do you see?” she asked, showing him the photos of him and Megumi from the past weekend. He’d already seen them all on her digicam, but he lingered over each one. He missed him. He hadn’t seen his face since Saturday. How was it that ten days with him had gone by so fast, yet even a single hour without him felt like weeks?
“Megumi,” he said at last.
Weak. So disgustingly weak. And pathetic.
“Yes. Megumi… and you. Now, what is Fushiguro doing? Or rather, where is he looking?”
“In which picture?” Yuji asked, confused.
“Yuji, come on. All of them.”
He stared at the photos as she scrolled through them one by one.
“Me…”

Chapter 10 (ItaFushi Quotes) The one where Yuji is obsessed with Megumi's tongue
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
Megumi glanced at him—one of those looks he gave when something weighed on his mind but couldn’t quite make it to his lips. “Go ahead, then. What am I thinking?”
(...)
“That I’m the worst friend in the world,” Yuji said, turning back to Megumi. His eyes searched for confirmation of the thought he’d already had about himself.
“You’re painfully oblivious,” Megumi said, rubbing his tired eyes.
If they were throwing daggers at each other, then:
“Yeah? And you run away from every conversation.”
Megumi surged forward, his shoulders slumped and his steps uneven—nothing like his usual self.
Yuji hurried after him. “And there it is!“
Then, Megumi stopped. Yuji took a few more steps before realizing he was alone and turned back to find him standing still.
Their eyes met.
“I like you, Yuji,” Megumi said.
His eyes flickered between Yuji’s, as if searching for an answer to a question he hadn’t asked.Yuji’s mind knew Megumi didn’t mean it like that. But his foolish heart didn’t—and it skipped excitedly.
---
“I’ve never felt more alive,” Nobara said, her voice cutting through the silence. “Maybe I’ll stay here. Maybe I won’t go back.”
Megumi, who had been silent for most of the day, said, “We should come for Halloween. It’s Yuji here in Shibuya.”
Yuji froze, blinking. Had he heard that right? Beside him, Nobara looked just as baffled, her expression practically screaming, What the fuck did you just say?
“Huge,” Megumi corrected quickly, his face reddening. “I meant huge.”
When Yuji finally found the courage to glance at him, Megumi’s wide eyes were fixed on the floor. He wasn’t sure he’d ever seen Megumi look more embarrassed in his life.
Guess Megumi liked the way his name rolled off his tongue too, huh?
---
The walk back to the hotel was quiet, each of them lost in their own thoughts.
For Yuji, that meant fixating on Megumi’s slip of the tongue. Which, naturally, spiraled into thoughts about Megumi’s tongue itself, and… oh god, he was obsessed with it.
Stupid tongue he hadn’t even seen. Not that seeing it really mattered. He didn’t care about seeing it as much as he wanted to feel it. But where? Oh, this was a fun game. Stupid, sure, but fun. Where did Yuji want to feel Megumi’s tongue?
A flush of heat spread through him, igniting every place Megumi’s imagined tongue might touch. Embarrassment burned alongside it. Megumi better not be listening to his thoughts right now.

Chapter 9 (ItaFushi Quotes) The one where Yuji thinks Megumi has a thing for Nobara
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
Yuji seized the moment when Nobara went to the restroom to let his intrusive thoughts spill out.
“So… Nobara,” Yuji began cautiously, his fingers toying with the edge of his menu.
“What about her?” Megumi asked idly, flipping through his own menu.
“She’s… pretty, huh?”
Megumi flinched but kept his eyes on the menu.
“What? You’re not gonna say anything?” Yuji pressed.
“Yuji, let’s not… do this.”
“Why? We can talk about girls.”
Liar. They absolutely could not talk about girls. Yuji already felt the bile rising in his throat. But he needed to know. Desperately.
“No, we really can’t.”
“Why not?”
“‘Cause I don’t want to. I don’t want to hear it.”
“Tsk. Alright, alright.”
---
Yuji slouched down onto the sofa next to Megumi.
“You’re up next, Megumi Fushiguro.”
Sometimes, Yuji liked saying his full name. There was something satisfying about the way it rolled off his tongue. And if that was all he could ever have of Megumi rolling off his tongue, well… better not finish that thought.
---
Yuji stared at the ceiling, stupefied. The girl the boy he liked liked had draped one arm over him. You couldn’t make shit like this up. What kind of love triangle hell was this?
Nobara, you fool, fool, girl. He likes you. He did all of this for you. He won’t say it, but he’ll show it. You just have to pay attention to what he does, not what he says. You hear me? Turn around. Have him. Have what I can’t.
But she didn’t. For Yuji couldn’t manifest thoughts he didn’t truly mean.
Instead, she shifted closer to him, and he sighed—relieved.
Maybe he’d sleep well after all.

Chapter 8 aka The One with Megumi's Daddy Issues (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
His fingers were still laced with Megumi’s, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. He didn’t want to let go.
Megumi must have followed Yuji’s gaze because, when his eyes fell on Yuji’s hands, he leaned forward abruptly, his expression tightening. “Your hands… You’re hurt.”
“This?” Yuji inspected his hands. “It’s nothing. Just a scratch.”
Megumi stood, still holding Yuji’s hand. “Come on, we’re going to see Shoko.”
“Who’s Shoko?” Yuji asked, confused, as Megumi pulled him along. He looked back at Nobara, who only shrugged.
“The school’s doctor,” Megumi said, his steps hurried.
(...)
It wasn’t until they arrived at Jujutsu High, stepped into Shoko’s infirmary, and she began treating Yuji that Megumi let go of his hand.
---
“What did Gojo want?”
“Nothing important.”
Yuji felt frustration bubbling up. “Well, it must’ve been if it took him three hours to say it.”
“It didn’t. I took a walk after.”
That stung.
“Could’ve said something. I’d have gone with you.”
“I know. Listen—”
“No,” Yuji cut him off. “You have to give me something, Megumi.”
“What?” Megumi’s shoulders tensed, caught off guard.
“This… friendship goes both ways. I tell you about my stuff, you tell me about yours.”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
“Really? And what happened on the mission was, what, nothing?”
“Yes.”
Yuji let out a dry laugh. “Who did you see?”
“Yuji—”
“Megumi. Please! Give me something.”
---
“What would you say to going on a trip this weekend?”
“A trip?”
Megumi nodded. “We could take the train to the city tomorrow after morning classes.”
Yuji looked at him, his brown eyes meeting Megumi’s deep blues. He could get lost in them—and for a moment, he did.
“You hate it?” Megumi asked at last.
Yuji broke into a wide grin. “No, Megumi. I love it. I really do.”
“Oh. Good, because everything’s booked, and I don’t think I can get a refund.”
Yuji laughed in disbelief. Why did Megumi’s kind heart still catch him off guard? But damn, it did.
---
And Megumi was... Megumi. Who wouldn’t fall for him? How could anyone like anyone else but him? If she didn’t like him yet, she would. It was inevitable.
Yuji’s thoughts spiraled. Megumi would start doing with her the things he did with Yuji—sparring, riding bikes to town, diving into natural pools… but also smiling at her, holding her hand, opening up to her—and worse… oh god, far worse, they’d do the things Megumi had never done (and would never do) with Yuji… they’d hug (check), kiss, and…
Yuji felt sick.
He sat up, clutching his stomach, waiting for the sensation to pass.

Chapter 7 aka The one where Nobara feels left out (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
“Come on, fight me,” Yuji teased, his grin unwavering.
“No.”
“Scared?”
“No,” Megumi said again, more firmly this time.
Yuji jabbed him lightly on the shoulder, then on his side.
“Stop that, you child,” Megumi said, his jaw tightening.
“Child? I’m very mature for my age.”
“Says who?”
“Kugisaki.”
Yuji glanced at Nobara, who was sitting cross-legged on the floor, arms crossed, her glare sharp enough to cut steel. He might spar with Megumi, but he wouldn’t dare fight Nobara—she terrified him.
“Kugisaki?! She’d never say anything so ridiculous,” Megumi said, drawing Yuji’s attention back.
Yuji smirked. “Oh, you’re asking for it.”
He lunged forward, catching Megumi off guard with a sweep to his leg that sent him sprawling onto the tatami. Before Megumi could recover, Yuji crouched over him, grinning triumphantly.
“Get off me,” Megumi said in a low, demanding tone that made Yuji’s pulse race. It wasn’t just adrenaline from sparring. He knew that.
“Yeah? Make me.”
Megumi hesitated, and Yuji’s grin faltered. The air between them felt charged. Yuji became acutely aware of their hips pressing together.
---
It was a truly splendid day. Not because Yuji was riding a bike down the rolling hill with his practically-best-friend-but-please-don’t-read-too-much-into-it-because-it-could-never-be-more-so-don’t-even-think-about-it Megumi Fushiguro. No, it was simply a beautiful day. The sun hung high in the sky, its warmth sinking deep into his bare arms.
---
Yuji quickly pulled off his shirt, then his jeans, and leapt into the water with a splash.
When he resurfaced, shivering and chattering, he said, “Oh! It’s so cold.”
Megumi watched him, his mouth twitching upward as he failed to hide his amusement “Idiot.”
“Yeah? Let’s both be idiots. Jump in!”
“No.”
“Fushiguro. Jump in right now. Or I’ll make you.”
“No. You said it was cold.”
“Come on! Please?”
“What’s your strategy here? Threatening or begging?”
“Whatever it takes to get you to say yes.”
After some hesitation, his shoulders slumped. That made Yuji grin. Megumi always played hard to get, but he never actually refused him—it just took a little work.
---
“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. It’s cold. I hate you.”
Yuji splashed water in his face. “You hate everyone.”
“I hate you more.”
“How much more?”
“More. Much more.”

Chapter 6 aka The one where Megumi offers to read to Yuji (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
They agreed to meet that night, after dinner, on the roof… to read.
It wasn’t a date. Definitely not a date. And yet, Yuji felt a fluttery sensation in his stomach. Damn the butterflies… and damn the boy who put them there. There hadn’t been any butterflies before Megumi Fushiguro.
For a moment, he considered calling it off, feigning sickness (not that he’d have to fake much—he did feel sick). His heartbeat pounded in his ears, coursing through his veins, reminding him he was alive. Megumi made him feel alive—and that’s why he could never call it off.
-----
Megumi began to read aloud. “The letter from his mother had wrung him dry.”
And oh—oh.
That. That was too much for Yuji’s heart.
The rawness of Megumi’s voice—low, rough, heavy as gravity—held him there, rooted in place. He could stay like this all night—he would, he wanted to. He didn’t dare move.
If Megumi’s voice was gravity, Megumi himself was his whole world. NO! NO! STOP RIGHT NOW! This is too dangerous a thought.
-----
A text came in. Megumi. As if summoned by Yuji’s all-consuming thoughts. Despite the anguish, Yuji smiled. That’s all it took—the boy’s name on his phone.
MEGUMI: Go to sleep, Itadori.
Yuji smiled at the phone so childishly, foolishly, recklessly, hastily, hopelessly, -ly, -ly, -ly…

Chapter 5 aka The one where Itadori gets sick (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
What was life, if not a combination of little moments that, at the time, seemed too mundane to write about, too dull to appreciate? Back then, they were too young to realize a war was coming, that hell was boiling, that devils had been relished. None of that mattered—not yet. They still had a few more weeks to be too young—too young to wish for the ordinary—but they would, soon enough. Only in retrospect would they understand that the little moments weren’t little at all. -----
Moments later, Yuji was kneeling on the bathroom floor, emptying his stomach into the toilet.
Megumi, who seemed like the type to hate being dragged into things that weren’t his problem, stood beside him. The sight had to be revolting, but he didn’t falter.
“You ate two high-grade cursed objects, and this is what takes you down? What do they put in that karaage?”
“Please, Megumi, go away,” Yuji said between bouts of vomiting, his face burning with embarrassment.
“I’m not comfortable leaving you alone like this.” (...)
Yuji fell back against the wall, wiping his mouth. “I hate this.”
“I know.”
“I hate that you’re seeing me like this.” He let it slip.
“I’ve seen worse.” ---
All Yuji wanted was to make him smile. He could make that his life’s mission: to show him he was on his side, to show him it was okay to let himself be seen. I see you, Megumi. I see you.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?” Yuji's voice was soft.
Megumi met his eyes. “Nothing.”
“There's gotta be something… I can hear you thinking.”
Megumi raised an eyebrow. “Yeah? You tell me, then.”
Yuji paused, pretending to concentrate. “Mmm, let me tune in… Oh, I’ve got it. Yuji is amazing! No, no, wait… Yuji is the most amazing person in the whole world.” He could never have said those words if he believed them to be true. “Did I get it right?”
“Spot on.” Megumi’s mouth quirked into a half-smile.
Yuji grinned wide, like only a child could. “I knew it. Practically best friends.”  ---
Megumi called to him, like a prayer. He was on his knees, pleading to a god he didn’t believe in. More time, please, please, please. I need more time with him.
But there would be no mercy for the vessel of the King of Curses.

Chapter 4 aka The one where Itadori snaps at Fushiguro (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
Megumi stayed behind with Yuji, whose face was flushed crimson. Their eyes met, and Yuji caught the faintest hint of a smile tugging at Megumi’s lips.
“Don’t,” Yuji warned, his lips twitching like he was trying to suppress a smile.
“Strawberry Boy,” Megumi teased.
Yuji bumped his shoulder against Megumi’s. “You’re having fun with this, aren’t you?”
“You make it too easy, Itadori.”
“Shut up!”
_________
Megumi, however, stayed silent throughout dinner, which wouldn’t have been unusual—except for how distant he felt. Yuji hadn’t felt this way since before that first night on the roof, but now it was back—an unbridgeable distance that coiled in his stomach like a knot. The wall between them had reappeared, and Yuji was stuck on the wrong side of it, watching as Megumi pulled further and further away.
He couldn’t stand it. He needed to understand. He needed to break through—to crack Megumi’s skull open and lay his thoughts bare, to tear through the chaos inside and make sense of it all. He needed back in.
_________
He’d never had a friend before—surely this was normal, right? Feeling so desperately and hopelessly sick at the thought of losing one. Yuji felt impossibly small.
A text came in. He rubbed his hands over his eyes, only then noticing the tears he hadn’t realized were there.
Then he saw Megumi’s name on his phone and felt as if he were on top of the world.
Would it always be like this? Like every moment with Megumi would pull him to the highest highs and the lowest lows?

Chapter 3 (I'll die for this one) (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
And then he saw it—a scene straight out of a Monet painting: Megumi, lost in his book, sitting beneath a tree, shrouded in its shadow with his Divine Dogs.
It was one of those moments that made you believe in a grand design, because how could anything so perfect exist by chance? It had to be carved by the gods.
Yuji felt the air thicken as it filled his lungs, forcing him to take a deep, steadying breath.
He thought about turning away, as it felt profane to disturb such a sacred vision. But he wasn’t strong enough. So, he allowed himself to observe it from afar, letting it be. He felt that if he interfered, he would corrupt it, as he was corrupted himself. He wasn’t worthy of being in the painting. _________
The rain poured down in sheets. As they sprinted toward the house, Yuji burst into uncontrollable laughter, the kind that came out of nowhere.
He stopped, breathless, clutching his stomach as the pain from laughing so hard set in.
Megumi stopped too. “What are you doing, you idiot?”
“I—,” He tried to speak, but his laughter made it hard to get the words out.
“You’re mad, you know that?” Megumi shook his head, but then, he laughed too. It was small, but enough for Yuji to know that he was capable of it.
_________
They were both drenched from head to toe.
Megumi rushed upstairs to the bathroom and returned with two towels, holding one out to Yuji.
“Thanks.”
Megumi dragged the towel roughly through his hair. The sight of him—drenched, his t-shirt clinging to his torso—was almost too much. Yuji’s heart raced as he tried to look away, but his gaze betrayed him, lingering longer than he intended.
Water dripped from Yuji’s soaked clothes, pooling on the floor.
“Yuji?”
“Huh?”
“You’re leaving puddles everywhere”
“Oh!” Yuji, still a bit out of it, quickly peeled off his wet t-shirt.
Megumi turned sharply, his back to Yuji. “Jesus, Itadori!”
_________ (I had to stop myself from posting more than three)

Chapter 2 aka The one where Itadori friendzones himself (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle.
“Are we friends, then?” Yuji grinned.
“That’s not what I said.”
Yuji nudged him lightly with his elbow. “Oh, come on. That’s what you meant.”
“Sure, Itadori.”
“Call me Yuji. We’re friends now.”
“Don’t push it.”
“Fine… Megumi.”
Megumi rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “You’re impossible.”
_________
Megumi Fushiguro was his friend. How could Yuji ask for more? He wouldn’t dare now that he had so much to lose. So, he promised himself that he would do everything, anything, to protect their friendship.
And if fleeting thoughts of Megumi’s lips brushing the tip of his nose, his hands cradling Yuji’s face, or his body curling against his own slipped into his mind now and then, he allowed them—but only for two seconds.
As for his dreams, well, he couldn’t hold himself accountable for them.
(...)
As he rushed into his dreams, he reassured himself Megumi is my friend, and that’s enough. Because, of course, it never even occurred to him that Megumi Fushiguro—the coolest boy in the entire world—might actually be thinking of him as more than a friend.

Chapter 1 The one with the Meet Cute (ItaFushi Quotes)
Fic: I Know the End by 3sopogirl on Ao3 It’s a slow-burn, canon-compliant romance told from Itadori’s POV—basically, Yuji thirsting over Megumi Fushiguro while trying (and failing) to keep it subtle. When Yuji saw the tall, pale, dark-haired boy, he didn’t know he would fall in love with him, though his heart skipped a beat. But then, it wasn't love. Love came later.
——————
He hadn’t noticed it before, not from so far away. Earlier, he’d only caught the broad strokes. But now, up close, he saw it: the faint shade of blue in his black hair, the sharp, ocean-deep-blue eyes that seemed far older than his years. He wasn’t much taller than Yuji, but his slender frame made him seem so. And that neck… that long, pale-white neck—it was a sin waiting to happen. Yuji swallowed hard, like a starving vampire. His teeth ached for the boy’s jugular. He wanted to kiss it. Was he mad? God, how absurd. But who was he, this boy? Someone Yuji had met before? No. He would have remembered. How could he not?
——————
The simple truth was, he didn’t want to die. He would miss the invigorating scent of early summer rain, the hum of the bustling city, the sweet fizz of strawberry Ramune, the gentle sway of a train lulling him to sleep, and maybe, just maybe, though they'd just met, the seemingly ever-miserable sight of Megumi Fushiguri. And that was something worth holding on to.
——————
Three things happened after that:
The shikigami vanished—likely because Fushiguro was badly injured, or so Yuji guessed.
Fushiguro was hurled from a fourth-story building.
Yuji saw red. I’m going to rip that motherfucking curse apart.
