I want to make a good impression.” — The war is over, Ciri has taken back Cintra and rules as queen, but things are still uncertain. To secure her rule and acknowledge her right to the throne she desperately needs a treaty with one of the northern kingdoms, and as tradition dictates, it can only be sealed by a marriage between the foreign king and a member of the Cintran nobility. The other man had sunk to his knees in front of him, and finally Jaskier was able to see his face clearly. The wavy red hair looked duller than it had the last time he’d seen him, slightly tangled. There were dark shadows under his eyes, and an almost healed cut on his forehead. There was no way to block out the memories inevitably flooding his mind at the sensation. Memories of soft strands of hair brushing his skin and the feeling of a trembling breath on his lips. Then take me here. Desperately, Jaskier tried to push the memory aside, trying to breathe around the sharp pain in his chest. He opened his eyes a bit, just enough that he could make out the forest around him and Cahir’s face close to his own. That helped.
After Thanedd, after the night in the shed, all Jaskier wants is to forget. Forget the pain, forget that feeling of finally being seen and the emptiness that came after. Forget Radovid. But no matter how hard he tries, it doesn’t seem like he can.
