I've gotten so used to people complaining about things "being rushed" in queer romances as in "they fell in love / connected too fast / the romance isn't realistic nor does it feel earned", that I completely forgot that one could also mean "being rushed" as in "I wish they would have been able to afford devoting more screen time on the show to exploring the relationship and connection between these two, so the audience would have felt even more invested in that storyline".

Yes, indeed, in that case, very valid criticism!

I think that, in terms of what they did with the little amount of screentime they were given, they managed to very skillfully handle the whole build up towards the relationship, and made it feel very real (and refreshingly healthy!).

But I wouldn't have complained, at all, if they had chosen to give us an actual love scene instead of a fade to black, or if there had been even more dialogue, and gentle teasing, and a few additional scenes here and there.

Like you pointed out, Jaskier is sort of part enough of the main cast that you can't just have a random romance with him occur behind the scenes (like Istredd and Triss), if you want to offer that specific romance a similar weight as Yenralt.

But, at the same time, since it's not part of the main plot in the books nor is Radovid himself a main character, you can't really put the whole show's focus on it, either (well, you could, but then you'd be running after some trouble).

Anything leading to more Radskier content is something you'll find me enthusiastically getting 100% behind, though! For sure! I'm all for "slowing down and admiring the scenery" with these two!

honestly with all the valid criticism about how rushed the radskier storyline is, I must say it keeps coming back to me that that‘s actually an aspect I love so much about radovid. he‘s been waiting for something all his life not knowing what it was, and when he saw it he just knew. he knew this is what he waited for and he knew exactly what to do. throwing his life away for someone he met three times, fuck it. and he was so hopelessly romantic about it, like yeah, he‘ll definitely find him wherever out there, he who knows nothing but the castle, and everything will be great. he‘s so insane for that and i love him so much.

and as for jaskier, the man who saw someone brooding in the corner of a tavern and immediately decided to adopt him and be adopted by him, well…

you know, I'm still not over jaskier sending radovid home through his sandpiper network. he revealed a secret route to a man who had just betrayed his trust and who is from and kinda works for the very anti-elf faction that is redania. but he did it, because otherwise radovid could not get home safely. I stand by radovid throwing his entire life out the window to follow this man anywhere after like 3 encounters honestly bc he's absolutely right jaskier is a keeper

i just realized Radovid didn't just become the lover of a bard - he became the lover of one of the most famous bards of the Continent who is incredibly well known for his songs he writes based on his love and heartbreak brought on by A Guy He Loved Who Broke His Heart. imagine you were a prince and your kingdom's spy network was like "hey there's this bard spy we're using for his ties to the Literal Two Most Important People to the Future of the Continent" and then you're like. that's fucking taylor swift.

Some small details from the Jaskier/Radovid kiss scene that make my little heart go insane

• When Jaskier brushes Radovid's hair out of the way before kissing him

• Jaskier's other hand going to Radovid's neck, seemingly disappearing into his hair

• Radovid grabs onto Jaskier’s bicep when he fully realizes what's going on

• The way the kiss is shy and has an innocent feel to it

• When they part Jaskier nuzzles his nose into Radovid's cheek (it's a blink and you'll miss it moment)

• All the tension disappears from Jaskier’s shoulders and face when they part

• Radovid is the first one to open his eyes

• When Jaskier finally opens his eyes he first looks at Radovid's lips then into his eyes

• When Jaskier says "I can't take you inside. I'm sorry" His thumb is gently caressing Radovid's cheek

• The tiny smile Radovid gives Jaskier as he says "Then take me here"

• Jaskier’s barely there smile before Radovid leans in for a second kiss

• The look in Jaskier’s eyes when he closes the gap on a much more passionate second kiss

• Jaskier’s hand that was just seconds before on Radovid's cheek going down to his chest

Over all its just a really sweet moment and I'm so immensely happy one of my favorite characters is now canonically queer!!
