To escape from embarrassment, his mother sends him to live on land. When Mika came back, he found Yu very different than how he remembered him.

The comforting blurred lines of their friendship had awkward stains in them, and trying so hard to be what they used to be so effortlessly was straining the edges. Nonetheless they tried, with soft laughs and awkward pauses, some light touches that felt more intimate than they had any right to be.

Mika felt drained by the effort of trying to fit in what they used to be and weren't anymore, but the hardest part, the most crushing weight on his shoulders, was seeing Guren succeed so easily.
