Soma must have a back tattoo. Akutsu obviously does from the tattoos seen. Both of them were to officer candidates and part of a direct family. I am thinking that Soma probably has a viper as his tattoo, too, based purely on his song. Course Majima has Mad Dog as his theme and song but doesn't have a dog as his tattoo. So, hm, I wonder what Soma's back tattoo must be -- and also goes to show his dedication to his cause.
Side note!
Higashi mentions that Akutsu and Soma both dedicated years to the Tojo. Both of them had the higher ups take credit for their work, and also cut them short on a lot of what they've done. Yet they kept working. Akutsu is more of a dedicated worker than he lets on and Soma is just driven in general.
Also Akutsu seems like he is a lot more bitter about what happened with the Tojo than Soma. Like, Soma just is pretty ambivalent to the whole thing. He takes it as "that sucks, new plan" situation. It isn't so much that he is one step ahead of everyone but more that he doesn't get flustered or fixated on something not working. He just moves onto a Plan B or Plan C.
The scene in Siren comes to mind. Soma wants to talk to Kuwana's uncle to get the location of Kuwana, and also kill Yagami and Kaito to get them out of the way. However, the owner of the bar threatens to call the police if he doesn't back off and has no desire to talk to him further. Said uncle is an old guard yakuza who has deeper ties than Soma has, and if he pushes the issue and hunts him down, it might end up kicking a hornet nest of ex-yakuza. So he moves on to another plan and abandons what isn't working.
His plans aren't necessarily always like burn and salt the earth like Kuwana's. Like meeting Yagami and Kaito. He understands it would be more of a loss to keep harassing them than have them join on their own, so makes peace with them instead.
I like my side note went on its own rant.
