Dead community, blog inactivity, and waning interest in the game
With AUG entering its third week since launch, one thing has become clear: This game’s English community is nearly non-existent.  While there is a small grouping on Twitter and a Discord of 30-ish people at the time of this writing, here on tumblr specifically, the tags have all been dead.  Not even to mention that I've grown bored of the game very quickly; It’s been so unworthwhile to post here that I missed posting any news about the first event, and missed Kanon Tendo’s birthday this past week too.  So unless AUG has a bigbang on tumblr (which better be sooner than later seeing how equally-unpopular it already is in Japan), consider this blog inactive.  If game-changing news ever happens i’ll be sure to try to post it here, but any small daily login news will have to found elsewhere.
Now, are you one of 3 people on here who does want that daily login news and updated game guides and not sure where to go? That I can help with: Twitter: I along with another player run AoGirlsEN, Although it is also suffering from lack of consistent posts.  I check it daily, so if you have any questions that you need answered this is probably your best bet!   The Google Doc: What started as a simple copy paste of all the info here for personal reference has grown into the go-to info dump for AUG.  still not finished, but far more accurate that everything on here.
Discord: Barely active, but I don’t have the server muted, so any questions posted there I will see too. Instagram: Not really a social media I use often, which is upsetting seeing it seems to be the most active for AUG content at this point.  There are a few AUG accounts but the active one currently is Aozoragirls; I’d definitely check there for any misc. translations the google doc doesn’t have.

Aozora Under Girls release date confirmed!
Tumblr media
After a somewhat surprisingly long wait time between the game’s beta and now, AoGal is set to be released for both Android and iOS on July 26th! The Pre-registration reached the second goal of 30,000 registrations, meaning all players will be gifted 600 diamonds on launch!
More miscellaneous info on news related to the game from the past month under the break.
A new group, Valkyrie was revealed!  Their role in the game is probably as a group of mentors for the idols available, as no cards or 3D models have been seen of them.  They have some pretty well known names for their voices too:
Tumblr media
Info on two more story relevant characters were also given: fellow student Moe Yoshinaga (CV. Airi Eino) and President of Kaguragaoka Academy, Kagura Hisaishi (CV. Kikuko Inoue) Character sheets for all of these girls haven been added to the Characters section!
youtube
A PV for the game was released, showing parts from the STAR☆TING! MV, as well as gameplay.  Along with it were 5 videos showing the in-game performances for the groups’ singles:  Twinkle☆Star ‘s Tokimeki Summer, GE:NESiS’ Karisome Irony, Pretty Princess’ Wagamashi Princess, Ginga Kagekidan’s After School Cruise!, and Remuage’s Melty:Sensation.
Once the game is released, i’ll try to get the guides updated and accurate as fast as possible, as well as finding the rerolling method and account saving feature.  I hope you’re looking forward the the launch as much as I am!

Aozora Under Girls Pre-registration info!
Tumblr media
There are pre-registration milestones at 10 thousand, 30 thousand, 50 thousand, 70 thousand, and finally 100 thousand users, with the total rewards being 1500 diamonds, a Summer Uniform costume, and SR+ Gacha ticket! To sign up, You’ll need to either have a Twitter or LINE account*, and then head to this website.  Then simply either use the Twitter button to follow the AoGal Twitter account, or the LINE button to add the AoGal LINE account as a friend.  This pre-registration campaign lasts until the game is released sometime this summer!
* There is also a third, special way to pre-reg that will enter you in a chance to win postcards featuring characters from the game, a select few of which will even be autographed by their voice actress!  However, it’s shipping is of course limited to Japan and only lasts until June 15th, so if you are someone who is interested and would be able to have the prizes shipped to you, you can probably figure out how to pre-reg for it far better than I can.  The link to do so is the third, pink button next to the Twitter and LINE buttons.

What is Aozora Under Girls?
Aozora Under Girls (shortnamed AoGal) is an upcoming idol focused mobile game by Square Enix.  However, unlike games such as Love Live: School Idol Festival, Idolm@ster Cinderlla Girls: Starlight Stage, and BanG Dream: Girls Band Party!, This is not a rhythm game.  It plays much like a card battle game, where you have to activate card skills with an energy bar function in order to pass live performances.
In this post I hope to simply explain how the game plays, introduce the characters, and really just see if I can interest you enough to bring you into another Idol Hell.
TWO IMPORTANT THINGS TO STRESS RIGHT AWAY: 1, I have not played this game yet.  The beta that ran for one week in late April/early May was Android devices only, which I don’t play on, so everything I've complied (including screenshots) is from videos and images shared by people who did get to play it. 2, I am not a translator.  Anything and everything I translate should be taken with a grain of salt until/if a more well suited translator gets into the game.
So, gameplay.  I’m going to jump right into how the live shows work, since that being the most different is what will make most people decide if they want to even try this game or not.
Tumblr media
Here is what the performance mode looks like as of the Beta.  The gist of performances in this is that you are facing off against another group to see who can do better.  At the top you will notice a bar with three icons; a Microphone for Vo. (Vocal), Shoe for Da. (Dance), and Mirror for St. (Style) Then along the bottom there are the members of your team and an AP bar.  The AP bar gradually fills up as the song goes, and you can spend AP equivalent to the number in the top right of the member’s cards to activate their skill.  When you start a live, the attribute icons at the top will all be at 50%. The objective is to have two of the three of these over 50% at the end of the song.
I will be honest on the gameplay I've seen from the beta: at least at the early levels, it seems VERY brain dead/buttonmashy.  There appears to be no benefit to actually knowing what any of the skills do nor having correct skills on your team.  Hopefully at the higher levels/in events the difficulty of lives will be more challenging.  Also slightly related, I think the 3D models looks pretty good in this game, and not being a rhythm game, is far less distracting too, gameplay wise.  However, older device owners beware, I’ve seen no mention/confirmation that its possible to turn off 3D models.
This link will take you to a video of the tutorial song (as of the beta), incase you want to see what i’m trying to explain in real time.
There’s also a few other small mechanics in this game that I've never seen before, such as simulating idol lessons to make progress on a talent tree-like system.  Anything else you expect like LP/Stamina system, leveling cards, premium currency, and a gacha for you to cry over are all present.
Now for the characters; There are 21 idols in this game split across 5 groups:
Tumblr media
Twinkle Star - The obvious ‘main character’ group, Led by Not-Honoka/Chika herself.  Kotone, Waka, and Hinata are first years, Chihiro is second year, and Venus is a third year.
Tumblr media
GE:NESiS - Can’t have the main/happy group and not have the rival/cool group.  Miyuki, Nozomi, and Riko are second years, and Reika and Sana are third.
Tumblr media
Pretty Princess - A duo group featuring a Rei Ayanami expy and the love child of Nico and Nozomi.  Both first years in high school.
Tumblr media
Ginga Kagekidan - Their name translates to “Milky Way Theater Company” and I truly have nothing else to add.  Kurumi is a second year in junior high, Yu is a third year in junior high, Harumi and Nene are first years, and Marisa is a third year.
Tumblr media
Remuage - It’s French and means when a bottle of wine is turned over?? Design wise, they really just looks like an extra member from the first four groups got together and made their own. Furi is a first year, Celie and Aya are second years, and Kanae is a third year.
The game is set to release sometime this summer; In late May a PV video was released featuring the song sung by all 21 characters, STAR☆TING!  There’s also a pre-registration campaign running right now that I detailed here.  If you’d like to know more about the game or characters, I have pages for both of those including translated character profiles and a full tutorial of gameplay and navigation.   I hope this post was able to inform you more on AoGal, and maybe even get you interested enough to try it once it’s released!
