“ your birthday is in july. ” and she wasn't this much of an early planner. perhaps it was better that it wasn't for an event months ahead, god only knew the grandiosity of a party she'd take four months planning and how little energy he'd have for it. being old was only a believable excuse for lack of enthusiasm at events when a man's hairline had moved a few centimetres, but his hadn't. “ i'm jumping for joy. ” he clearly wasn't. “ is this how we resolve things in this house now ? blackmail and manipulation ? ” a normal person would've been angry, he was impressed and a little proud. but a party would likely be less annoying than forty-three ear tugs from a wife angry she didn't get her way and toddlers who could not yet count. “ keep it small. ”
