My little guy took part in his first scientific study today at UofT! It only took about 30 mins and Parker seemed to enjoy it. If you're in the GTA and interested in signing up your little one, follow this link! http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/infant-child-centre/parents

As a new mom, I’m working to save money anywhere I can. One way in which I’m doing this is making everything myself. Everything from his milk (not sure if that counts though :P) to our bread to his butt balm. We also cloth diaper but that I’ll talk about another day. Pictured above is my first round of homemade baby purees. My little guy is only four months old and we’re waiting until 6 to introduce solids but we had some fruit/veg starting to wilt in the fridge. It was super easy and I’m really excited for my Bubs to try them!
I have a 3 tiered steamer so I just put one mixture in each of the tiers. What I learnt was to pay attention what is in which tier...anything that is more, wet, should be in the bottom so as not to leak into what’s below it. I put peaches and carrots into the bottom layer (about 1.5 large carrots and 4 medium peaches), kale, banana and blueberries into the middle tier (this was my mistake, blueberries should have gone into the bottom...they leaked into the peach carrot mix. It was about 1/3 a pint of blueberries, one banana and one leaf of kale) and the top was a brussel sprout potato mix.I turned the steamer on to 30 minutes and after it finished I took off the lid to let it cool. I then blended the different mixtures one by one using a combination of my magic bullet and my immersion blender. For each one I thinned out the puree with breast milk. I stored the result in single or double servings between my baby blocks and mini mason jars in the freezer.
This worked out to about 20 servings, basically free since I was using food about to go bad or otherwise in my kitchen. Not only was the cost great, but I know EXACTLY what I will be feeding my son. No questionable ingredients, just pure fruits and vegetables.
