Okay, so now that I’ve had a bit over a month to process Netflix’s Devil May Cry and how the general plot of it goes, I’ve come up with some theories as to how the next season is going to go. But I kept coming back to the whole “refugee” plot line and how it would be carried over.

While I personally didn’t have too many issues with it (even if it was as subtle as a brick through a window), they’ve gotten so much backlash over it that I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers decided to retcon it. But how would they go about doing that? It was a pretty big thing in that first season.

Turns out… fairly easily, actually. Stick with me here, I think I might be on to something… and got a little carried away in the process.

It could be revealed that Makai isn’t actually the equivalent of Hell. Hell is, in fact, its own separate dimension from both Earth and Makai. After Sparda closed off the way between Earth and Hell, using a combination of Force Edge and the Temen-ni-gru, eventually the demons tried a more indirect approach to getting to Earth. Sparda may have created a barrier between Hell and Earth… but not to anywhere else.

Makai is just one of many worlds that Hell has conquered trying to get to Earth. That’s why the climate there is so toxic; the demons are replicating Hell after taking it over. Unfortunately for them, Sparda, being a demon as well, knows their thought process, and spent the last two thousand years creating barriers between Earth and all other neighboring dimensions. He’s only been using Force Edge for those however, which is why there are cracks that allow demons and others to pass through.

The demons haven’t been getting to Earth through Hell, they’ve been getting to Earth through Makai and other worlds because the barriers between Earth and other dimensions aren’t quite as strong. There is only one Temen-ni-gru and it was used up to create the barrier between Earth and Hell.

The plot for Season 2 could be discovering this, possibly saving Makai using Force Edge, and the big cliffhanger is Arius, Baines, and Vergil teaming up to summon the Temen-ni-gru for their own purposes. Arius wants power for power’s sake, Baines just wants to destroy Hell, and Vergil wants power for his own complex MOTIVATIONS. All of this with Mundus plotting from behind the scenes.

What I’m about to go into requires a bit of context that I won’t repeat, so go to this post for that.

Season 3 can be an epic combination of story elements from Devil May Cry 1, 2, AND 3! Lucia’s connection with Arius can be one plot line, Baines will basically substitute Arkham and that’ll be Lady’s plot line, Trish’s plot line will basically be a more fleshed out version of her redemption arc from DMC 1, and Dante can have some family bonding with Vergil. Hell, throw Jester in there for good measure, give Lady more trauma and development to go through, that’d be fun.

The ritual to activate the Temen-ni-gru basically goes like it did in canon, except it’s one big fight with Dante, Lady, and Lucia vs. Vergil, Trish, and Arius, eventually winding up with Trish maybe betraying everyone to activate the tower or, if you want him included, Jester showing up to do what he did in canon to activate the tower. Point is, it was Mundus’ master plan from the beginning.

All of it culminates in a final battle against Mundus (for whatever reason, I’m picturing him taking over Arius’ body with some sort of Faustian bargain), an epic Dante and Vergil team up with Lady, Trish, and Lucia providing backup. Cue a combination of the ending of DMC 1 and 3. And Dante and Lady make out or whatever.

All of this to say… Imagine if Nero is Dante’s kid in this timeline. I’m not saying I want that, I’m just saying that’d be funny. It would round out the set of Netflix Dante stealing something from everyone in the Sparda bloodline: Dante’s looks, Nero’s voice, and Vergil’s kid. Hilarious.

Okay, so I’ve seen the small snippets for Devil May Cry Season 2, and I have thoughts.

To be quite frank, the simplest explanation for what little we see is that Dante has been brainwashed by DARKCOM and is now working under the name Tony Redgrave with Lady watching him. This would easily explain away him getting Ebony & Ivory in the first place, Lady still wearing DARKCOM Armor and a hat indicating a promotion, and the fact that Dante appears older now, indicating that he’s been out of the ice for quite a while.

However, for as many interesting plot lines that scenario could go down, I don’t like it, so here’s an alternative theory.

-The first episode of the season starts out with the immediate aftermath of the invasion of Makai. Maybe we can be introduced to some new characters, but mostly focus on Lady, her getting a promotion for capturing Dante, the amulet, and Force Edge, and how she realizes how much she fucked up. End with her plotting.

-Next episode is Lady breaking Dante out of his icy prison. But she’s not alone. Some time has passed, and Lady has assembled a team who share her views about this whole situation. Together, they’re able to break Dante out without getting caught or seen.

-The reason Lady still has her armor is because she’s pretending to still be working for DARKCOM.

-There’s no doubt some drama between Dante and Lady (of course), but trust is quickly earned back. Considering how quickly Dante let Enzo off the hook in S1 for setting him up twice, it might only take an episode or two for Dante to warm up to Lady again. Doesn’t matter how he feels though; Lady is guilt-ridden for the entire season.

-The reason why Dante is older and is going by Tony Redgrave is obviously because he’s on the run from the government, and has been for just over a month or so.

-One member of Lady’s entourage is Nell Goldstein (Nico’s grandmother), and she’s the one who makes Ebony & Ivory.

-I’m not sure who the other members of Lady’s group could be. Maybe those demon hunters from S1 E1? They had interesting designs, would be a shame to waste them. One of them was apparently Lucia, so oh boy. Hell, maybe Trish can be part of the group! That’d be fun for later.

Look, as for the rest of the plot, I don’t know, not only is there not much to go on, I just want things to get better between Dante and Lady, I’m obsessed now.

Condor's feeling of love and affection is so tied to death and killing. Condor and Warbler's dynamic is one of the backbones of the whole story. I'm very excited to get more into ittttt
