PSA for writers:

Per the infrared kitchen thermometer, the rings I have been wearing all day (materials tested: platinum, palladium, 14k gold, and I guess technically diamond) are approximately the same temperature as the fingers that they are on. Yes, I took a few of them off and measured them when they were not on my skin.

(I mean I could have told you that would be the case because science without actually measuring the temperatures, but I have the thermometer, so why the hell not? Also I was bored, and my only real use case for the thermometer is "can the thing go in the oil now?" and I don't do that often at all, so I figured I'd make it feel useful.)

I can also assure you from years of experience with "would like to remove this, but my fingers are swollen, and I'm too lazy to go grab the Windex" that they do not feel appreciably cold against the inside of my mouth. Which would indicate that they would not feel appreciably cold against any sort of mucus membrane.

You'd feel any intricacies of the metalwork and the jut of any stones though.

I was…in a sharp mood to cut off everything, even my name. It isn’t the first time I sought to kill an identity after a kick in the teeth. Seemed only natural to start over. Start fresh.”

“But a very close friend was the first to take the bottle away that night and talk me out of that decision. She showed me that I was talking mostly out of pure spite. And it was a wise decision, as that very close friend is now a co-owner of our business in Stormwind.”

Flicking her gaze out briefly over the harbor, the Courier caught a loop of her plaited braid and shifted the length of hair behind her shoulder. “If I didn’t retain my role as an importer, I’d likely be letting something much…unhealthier, consume my life.”

INDIANA JONES

Did not influence the creation or development of Aranya, but she’s been compared as being like the female Indiana Jones of the mage world, and I have to admit that it’s pretty accurate. She’s a scholar, a teacher and mentor, an adventurer, a seeker of lost or hidden knowledge, relics, and treasures, and serves her nation gladly.

MISTRESS OF THE WEST (Emerald City)

West is fierce, passionate, perceptive, brooks no shit from anyone, and says it like she sees it. She is delightfully wicked and overflowing with snappy wit, but she’s also full of feeling for others. Her heart is tough as nails but it bleeds with pure love. She tells people exactly what they need to hear, and she’s well-aware of her own flaws. This woman is ferocious and not one to cross lightly. Sound familiar?

YENNEFER OF VENGERBERG 

I blame @manwich85​ entirely for this one. He brought Yennefer’s aesthetic to my attention a handful of years ago, I had never heard of the Witcher before then, and then he told me that the character was actually quite similar to Aranya in a number of ways. I like what a skilled sorceress she is, her cool sense of tact, her razor wit, and her willingness to own the consequence of what must be done. The strongest similarity to me with Yennefer and Aranya is their insistence on showing everyone that they’re invulnerable. This proverbial “armor” that they wear all the time and are too reluctant to let slip. Those rare moments of LETTING themselves be vulnerable, though? EXQUISITE to watch or RP!

There’s also how (by no actual intention of our own) Aranya’s relationship with @rhovinthorne​ is scarily like Geralt and Yennefer’s, (which actually has a shit-ton more to do with our own RL stuff being at fault for that), but the way that it’s impacted their evolutions as characters and how that has torn them apart and pulled them back together again, again and again, has truly been worth watching over the years.
