Interviewer: [asks what was it about Michael that made Geoff and Jack want to hire him after seeing his videos]

Geoff: [silence]

Michael: Go on, Geoff, please.

Geoff: Uh, gosh, sorry. It’s been so many years, [it’s] hard to look back.

Michael: How do you pick one thing? Yeah…

Geoff: How do I pick one moment? Uh, yeah. Actually, I think, uh, Burnie showed Jack and I this Crackdown video that Michael did where he was running around trying to catch these obnoxious orbs and I happened to be playing Crackdown at the time that I saw the video. And, uh, I just identified with his frustration and, uh, he reminded me of living—it wasn’t that long ago that I’d lived in New Jersey and he reminded me of every single person I knew in New Jersey and, uh, I got a little nostalgic and, uh, he was a funny kid. And so Jack contacted him and asked him if he wanted to do some collaboration-type stuff and, uh, we were at a point in history where our standards were low enough—

Michael: Super low!

Geoff: …and he had little enough going on in his personal life—

Michael: Nothing!

Geoff: …that, uh, it was just a marriage of convenience and, uh, “Ehh?”

Michael: [laughs] You summed it up, really. I mean, honestly. Like, “Ehh? Move to Texas [and] make exactly what you’re making at your old job at your new job? Ehh, sure.”

Geoff: “Live in, uh, Jack’s spare bedroom?”

Michael: “Sure! Live with Jack for three months? Ehh?”

Interviewer: Why not, why not?

Michael: Why not, you know? Why not was the, uh, [reason] basically why I took the job. Why not? It’s worked out less than stellar, but I’m okay with it.

Geoff: I would like to say that I had some sort of grand vision where I’m able to, uh, identify young, uh, raw talent and mold them, uh, but that would imply any level of intelligence or forethought or foresight on my part which, uh, I cannot claim, so. It was more like we got lucky.
