1st picture: Greek temple
2nd picture: Roman temple
3rd picture: Etruscan temple
While Greek and Roman temples have similarities, you can see through these examples that Roman temples share more in common with Etruscan temples. The way they differ actually says a bit about differences in social culture between Rome and Greece. The Greek temple is a rectangle with stairs all around it, open to be approached from any side. It favours symmetry between the two long sides and the two short sides. It has a door on both short sides. Essentially it allowed for Greek people to sort of hang around the temple, bask on the stairs and do all kinds of communal activities around the temple.
Roman and Etruscan temples, by contrast, has a stair on just one of the sides, with just a wall on all the others. There's just one way to approach and enter these temples. This exemplifies how in Roman society temples were about temple activities like sacrifice, banking, accounting etc and less about the social activities around faith that Greeks associated with temples. The Greek temples seem more inviting to be approached, whereas the Roman is more imposing. While Roman society changed a lot across its history, service to the city and state were held as the height of manliness for long periods of history and the architecture of Roman temples very much reflect this. They represent a certain reverance to the State itself.

I love personalization. I love stickers on water bottles and on laptops. I love shitty marker drawing on the toes of converse. I love hand embroidered doodles on jeans. I love posters on walls. I love knick knacks on shelves. I love jewelry with goofy charms. I love when people take things and make them theirs.

27.05.2024 // a snapshot of last week. I have been incredibly busy with assignments and prepping for a month of study away.
last week, I —
prepared for a presentation on using postcolonial theory as one of the theoretical frameworks for my thesis and presented it. it went really well but I have so much work to do in order to narrow down the scope of my project
attended a conference and met some cool people
started working on my data management plan
worked on 2 essays, 1 blogpost
did some creative journalling
this week will be as chaotic because I'm travelling back home, which will mean disrupting whatever routine I had established. but at least, my routine at home is familiar.
