It's been such a delight playing through the Harveston event and actually recognizing a lot of the foods they mention.

I may have missed some of them, but here's some of the things Epel & co have been enjoying (from a Finnish perspective, Swedes and other neighbors feel free to add on any differences you may have).

Jade's mushroom soup made of red and brown, wrinkly mushrooms: made from Gyromitra esculenta. In Finnish, we literally call that one "ear mushroom". You have to be real careful preparing it, as the mushrooms are toxic and can be deadly (how appropriate for Jade), but we do make food out of it. Never had it myself, tho.

Sandwich cake (or smörgåstårta in Swedish) they did pretty much explain in the event. Slices of bread with savory fillings such as fish or meat, a coating of for example cream cheese, and some garnishes on top. For us it is considered perhaps a little old-fashioned, but unless you're trying to be all hip it is quite common to have it on festive occasions.

They weren't too specific about the fish soup, but I would assume this. Cubes of fish and potatoes, perhaps some carrots, milk or cream and some dill.

For the racing snacks, we had brined salmon, presumably gravlax (or graavilohi in Finnish). "Raw" in that it has been cured rather than cooked. Typically served in thin slices on top of (rye) bread.

And of course we must have rye bread, one of the things that Finns tend to crave while abroad. We have several different kinds, soft and hard, different shapes, but all with plentiful amounts of rye.

Epel's got a good taste with the oven pancakes (pannukakku in Finnish), I really enjoy those as well. They're also easy to make: no need to futz with the frying pan, just pour the batter in the pan and bake. Especially nice when you get them nice and thick and soft. Often served with jam and/or whipped cream.

Let me tell you tho, seeing them eat all these things sure got me hungry too.
