(I know you weren’t really in the mood for talking about Benn, so I thought I’d ask you about Foot instead cuz please you’re the only person I know who knows more about political history than I do and I need to learn more about it frfr 🙏❤️?)

I mean tbh I’m not really feeling up to Labourites rn, they aren’t the ones I’m the most well versed in. I know more Tory and Liberal history

But Foot was uh probably the most unlucky politician to ever live. He has asthma and eczema for life, he most died in a car crash that left him with a permanent disability in his leg that required aid in a walking stick. He then lost half of his eyesight after a shingles attack during the Callaghan years. He becomes the least successful leader of Labour on a frankly terrible manifesto. He just deserved better man. He was honestly one of the nicest people ever

(he seems like a really cool guy and a man who actually cared for the people and genuinely wanted to make things better for the people, and he also held onto his integrity (honesty respect him for that frfr), plus he’s kinda hot and attractive in my humble bi-ace opinion nglllllll, both when he was young and old fr (despite the pipe smoking lol))

Whenever I think about students using AI, I think about an essay I did in high school. Now see, we were reading The Grapes of Wrath, and I just couldn't do it. I got 25 pages in and my brain refused to read any more. I hated it. And its not like I hate the classics, I loved English class and I loved reading. I had even enjoyed Of Mice and Men, which I had read for fun. For some reason though, I absolutely could NOT read The Grapes of Wrath.

And it turned out I also couldn't watch the movie. I fell asleep in class both days we were watching it.

This, of course, meant I had to cheat on my essay.

And I got an A.

The essay was to compare the book and the movie and discuss the changes and how that affected the story.

Well it turned out Sparknotes had an entire section devoted to comparing and contrasting the book and the movie. Using that, and flipping to pages mentioned in Sparknotes to read sections of the book, I was able to bullshit an A paper.

But see the thing is, that this kind of 'cheating' still takes skills, you still learn things.

I had to know how to find the information I needed, I needed to be able to comprehend what sparknotes was saying and the analysis they did, I needed to know how to USE the information I read there to write an essay, I needed to know how to make sure none of it was marked as plagerized. I had to form an opinion on the sparknotes analysis so I could express my own opinions in the essay.

Was it cheating? Yeah, I didn't read the book or watch the movie. I used Sparknotes. It was a lot less work than if I had read the book and watched the movie and done it all myself.

The thing is though, I still had to use my fucking brain. Being able to bullshit an essay like that is a skill in and of itself that is useful. I exercised important skills, and even if it wasnt the intended way I still learned.

ChatGTP and other AI do not give that experience to people, people have to do nothing and gain nothing from it.

Using AI is absolutely different from other ways students have cheated in the past, and I stand by my opinion that its making students dumber, more helpless, and less capable.

However you feel about higher education, I think its undeniable that students using chatgtp is to their detriment. And by extension a detriment to anyone they work with or anyone who has to rely on them for something.

Thoughts on the tv show “The Crown” ?

I’ve only seen Season 3 because that’s my era of politics, but I have really enjoyed it! I’m obsessed with how they portray Wilson - he’s just trying to have a nice day and he gets put in situations - and Heath - he’s quite sympathetically done when they talk about the miners’ strike.

Thoughts on the musical artist/group “Kunt and the Gang” ?

I prefer him as The Kunts honestly. We all need satire that isn’t just the typical cheap haha, sometimes we need things that are dark and unpleasant and it makes the point. Also some of his songs are silly, even when on extremely sensitive subjects.

I really don’t like people who hate on his humour. Like it’s a very specific type that you have to get. If you don’t, that’s well and all, just don’t throw it in our faces. His songs are so stupid and I guess that’s what we need. I mean take Paperboy. Is it a “disgusting song”? Yeah obviously look at the topic manner. Is it making a point about how nonces justify their attractions? Of course it is!

Also did you know he lowkey ships Clameron? He did a remix of Use My sung from the perspective of Nick Clegg!

Tell me more about British PM and Liberal Lord Rosebery (and whether he was gay or not) please?

This fucker haunts me. Imagine taking over from Gladstone of all people, and just going “yeah you know what i hate my job”. Imperialist and sexist too, like damn boy pick a struggle.

But yeah the story goes that he was gay - he hated women and he enjoyed the company of young men. so pretty typical of significant gay men from this period. it was specifically the fact that he had some pretty close relationships!

- There was a guy he was friends with back at Eton. When he died, Rosebery remembered the anniversary of his death for the rest of his life. And god if you know anything about historical Eton and homosexuality, you know that’s pretty big. Also there was this thing where one of his tutors ended up infatuated by his students and suggesting they form friendships with each other? Eton teachers stop being nonces challenge failed once again.

- He was friends with Francis Douglas, who was associated with Oscar Wilde at the time of the Wilde affair (Wilde had been having an affair with Douglas’s brother Alfred). Douglas died in an accident at a shooting party and there was a conspiracy theory that Rosebery had him killed to hide his “proclivities” as it were. Douglas’s father Lord Queensbury just called Rosebery a “snob queer” and was basically hounding him. Honestly convinced he wanted to kill him. Rosebery himself I think felt guilt over everything.

But at the end of the day we really don’t know. Rosebery was an extremely secretive and paranoid man so, like many especially Heath, we’ll never know for certain. Although if I had a pound for every time a gay Liberal leader tried to shoot his ex I’d have two pounds. Which isn’t a lot but…
