Civic Action Assessment of Issue
1. My duty as a citizen is to vote and help pass laws that will aid my community. I can donate to any nonprofits that can benefit my community and volunteer whenever possible.
2. I have learned that I have a duty to vote as an American and that being active in my government is very good for our democracy.
3. Yes, because as a woman, I could potentially be affected by certain laws about my issue. I want places like Planned Parenthood open because they offer many useful resources that expand even broader than abortions.
4. I went in to Planned Parenthood and tried to learn about their government funding. They told me to find all of the available information online anyway, but I got interaction with Planned Parenthood and was able to discover some information about where they get their money. I learned that they get a bit of money from the government but especially in California, a lot of money comes from donations. Our current administration wants to defund Planned Parenthod because it administers abortions, so it will be interesting to see what happens to it.

Action Assessment of Issue
6. 1. In 1999, Trump claimed he was pro-choice, but now he claims that he is pro life. He says that Planned Parenthood does good things but it should be defunded because of abortion. when people call him out, he claims that they do wonderful things for women’s health but they should not, “Pull the baby out of the womb on the last day.”
2. I disagree because I believe in the right to choose, but I do like that he knows Planned Parenthood does other things as well.
3.  U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
4. “ The Department of Health and Human Services protects the health of all Americans and provides essential human services.” It relates because abortion can be an essential service that can help many Americans.
5. Alex M. Azar II. He does not want to fund PP since they offer abortions, and supported abstinence-only programs. He is qualified to lead since he has been in private and public practice surrounding health and human services for years.
6. The Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality can help abortions be safe and accessible. The Office for Civil Rights could help women not be discriminated against for choosing to get abortions.
7. The Executive action is not much on this issue. It is very controversial so it is not on many websites. I wish there was more information and well-stated answers from our president. The information I found was not very satisfying. Trump may cut funding but that means he would have to acknowledge the issue first. This is not a viable option though because funding will then be cut for a lot of other important services..

Legislative Action
1. a. Desaulnier, Harris, and Feinstein all support a woman’s right to choose.
b. I couldn’t find anything on Harris but Feinstein has voted on many bills that are pro-choice and Desaulnier has gotten a 100% rating from NARAL
2. a. There is one bill the pertains to abortions.
b. House Bill 4131
c. It says that federal tax bonds should not be used to build abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood.
d. It will mean that less places like Planned Parenthood will be built, because they will not receive federal tax bonds.
e. I would vote nay because they provide much more than abortion and keep a lot of the public safe and healthy
f. It was originated in the house and it seems like no committees have reviewed it yet and neither the house or the senate has voted.
g. There is a good amount of federal legislation but that could be taken away if bills are passed to ban funding.
3. SACAPS—S- This is about the bill that makes women wait 72 hours in certain states to get an abortion. A-  Andrea González-Ramírez C- The context is that an Oaklahoma court upheld the law and people are dissatisfied. A- Refinery 29 readers who are probably young women. P- They think the law is unjust and are upset that it was upheld. S- The significance is that courts are upholding unjust laws. I think this is unfair and I would like to see it removed.

The 3 Ps Assessment: Parties, Political Interest Groups, and PACs
1. a) The GOP are pro-life and often have articles criticizing democrats beliefs and calling them “pro-abortion”. The Democrats are pro-choice and believe everyone should have access to safe abortions. Libertarians believe government should be kept out of the matter of abortions and it should be up to the person. the green party believes the same as the democrats.
b) I agree with everyone except the republicans because I think everyone has the right to choose.
c) The democrats because I consider myself a democrat and would probably vote that way.
2. a)  NARAL Pro-Choice America
b) They think that all women should have a choice to get an abortion
c) They lobby and try and pressure politicians. They think women should have the right to abortion. They think women should have the right to contraception. They think workplace discrimination should end. They are democratic.
d) They support Diane Feinstein
e) They are a national group so I don't know if there is a nearby meeting
f) There are volunteer opportunities but they make you sign up to see them. You can also make calls
g) They seem organized and have a nice website. It also seems very inclusive
3. a) National Women's Political Caucus of California
b) They believe in a woman having the right to choose.
c) This group lobby a lot and has a lot of interaction with the community, as it holds many events. This group wants more women in politics and thinks women should have access to safe contraception and abortions. They want equality for all women.
d) They support Diane Feinstein as well.
e) There are opportunities to make calls and meet officials, but you have to sign up to see the volunteer opportunities.
f) They are located near Fresno and it would be a far drive to go to one of their meetings.
g) They seem passionate and very central to their location.
4. The NARAL seems more organized because they are a larger and more national organization. It seems that the NARAL has more divers supporters since it is nation-wide and the Women’s Cacus seems more directed towards women in the Central Valley.
5. a) Planned Parenthood
b) They offer abortions, contraception, and much more and they believe in a woman’s right to choose.
c) Total Receipts $554,599 Total Spent $856,516 Begin Cash on Hand $404,017
d) 99% is spent on democrats and 0% is spent on republicans
e) Many of their donors are homemakers and volunteers, which shows that many average people are giving to this PAC

Constitutional Issues
1. Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt
2. It was decided on Jun 27, 2016
3. Texas legislature passed laws relating to abortion clinics that the physicians performing the abortions have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and another stated that the clinics had to be similar to a hospital. A group of abortion providers sued the state because they felt that these laws were restrictive and unnecessary.
4. Do the laws in place put restrictions on women’s reproductive rights.
5. The 14th amendment prohibits states from depriving a person of liberty, which includes making decisions regarding abortions. The 9th says that even if abortion isn't stated in the constitution, it can still be a right.
6. The court decided 5-3 in favor of the Whole Woman’s Health.
7. It establishes the fact that no laws should be passed infringing on womens right to abortions.
8. I agree with the courts decision because I think that everybody should have the right to choose what they want to do with their own bodies without government interference.

Media Assessment of Issue
1. Liberal bias- Netflix’s ‘Reversing Roe’ Reveals What’s At Stake If Brett Kavanaugh Is Confirmed
Conservative bias- Clinton-tied group launches Supreme Court pressure campaign against GOP senators
Neutral- What Does Trump's Proposal To Cut Planned Parenthood Funds Mean?
2. S- it is trying to say what bad things will happen if Brett Kavanaugh is elected  A- The author is Alanna Vagianos, the women reporter for Huffpost C- It was produced on September 9th in New York city which is recent and since New York is more liberal, it has a sway. A- It was produced for liberals so it will appeal more to their biases. P- It is subjective and the author is trying to say that electing Brett Kavanaugh could be detrimental to the 4th amendment right to abortion, which I agree with. S- it says that one on four women will get an abortion within their lives. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/netflix-reversing-roe-brett-kavanaug_us_5b8fc823e4b0511db3ddffc8
S- it is trying to convey that liberals are already fighting Trump and are concerned about roe v. wade A- Andrew O'Reilly, It gives no info on him by clicking on his name C- Produced by Fox News on July 5th. This means it will probably have a conservative bias. A- This was created for conservatives who may like Trump and dislike abortion P- subjective and the author is saying that liberals are pressuring conservative lawmakers into disagreeing with Trump. S- that liberals are putting a lot of money into fighting to keep abortions legal http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/07/05/clinton-tied-group-launches-supreme-court-pressure-campaign-against-gop-senators.html
S- What will happen if funding is cut for planned parenthood A- Julie Rovner, the website does not give any information about her C- This source was published by NPR, which is a fairly unbiased news source A- This is for people who may not align with either party or are trying to avoid fake news P- objective, and there are the people who want to cut planed parenthood funds and people who support the right to abortion S- it tells facts about Trumps administration and what they propose instead on planned parenthood https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/05/18/612445385/what-does-trumps-proposal-to-cut-planned-parenthood-funds-mean
3. The similarities were that they all made sort of sense and the two biased pieces were both mildly convincing and the differences were that they obviously all had different messages because they were biased.
4. I liked the NPR one because it was the most straightforward and it presented the most facts.

CONCEPTUALIZING THE ISSUE AND ASSESSING TYPES OF ACTION
1. I chose the challenge to the fourth ammendment right to abortion because I think all women should be given the right to choose.
2. Its and issue because many people fight against this law and in many states the process of getting an abortion is a difficult one.
3. I think it should be more accessable in many states that have obstacles blocking easy access to abortions.
4. I followed Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood Action, Womens March, ACLU, and Kamala Harris because they are all supporters of the pro-choice movement. I agree with tweets stating that women should always have the choice, but pro-choice dosen’t mean pro-abortion.
