Fingon and Maglor parallels though, the way their Quenya names (Findekáno and Kanafinwë) so obviously mirror each other – and which of them is the elder? – and how Fingon dies tragically trying to do the right thing and Maglor survives having done nothing but the wrong thing, the way both their character arcs are so inextricable from Maedhros!! The way Maglor failed to rescue Maedhros and Fingon managed it! The fact that they’ve both been (kind of, acting at least) High Kings of the Noldor and they’re both noted to play the harp! The undeniable fact that Fingon’s death is what causes Maedhros to become the terrible person he becomes, that Fingon made Maedhros better, and Maglor never stopped him from becoming worse. The way they bookend Maedhros’ story actually – his first line in the published silm being his mention of Fingon at Losgar, and his last being spoken to Maglor. The fact that he loved them both, and that didn’t save anyone.

I think there exists an au version of s4 somewhere where basira sorts jon firmly into "us" instead of "them" and consequentially gets pretty on board with him forcing statements from strangers. maybe in a world where she was elsewhere on the boat when he slorped floyd matharu's brain and only sees him use his powers on breekon and manuela, so when she gets the tape from martin her reaction is "...you should be more discerning about your targets and keep to the monsters, but I'm sure you only did what you had to do."
