Film Doc Reflection
1. What is the purpose of submitting a video in a writing class?
@falconrws1302
I think the purpose of using a video is to learn how to use different genres to express our thoughts and rhetorical points such as , logos, ethos, and pathos through multimedia. Emotion is better portrayed with music and images than words.
2. Explain how you composed your message (purpose) in multiple forms.
It was important for our video to show emotion but not to a point of persuading our audiences. Concealed carry is a very emotional subject on its own we needed to pull back from images, videos, and sound in order to incorporate our other rhetorical points. Personal interviews from students were how we showed perspective. Our logic and credibility came from a personal interview from the head of the UTEP Concealed carry Implementation Task Force.
Why do you think the structure and delivery of the film doc worked to achieve its advocacy?
I believe we structured our video in a way that made sense and took our audience through steps in order to understand why concealed carry is the answer to school mass shootings. We presented them emotion to get their attention then came the facts of what is concealed carry and how it works, at the end we added an interview from someone who made the law possible in our school to reassure them that it will not be a drastic change in our school. I believe we made a good job with our structure of our documentary in order to achieve our advocacy.

Week 13 Post
Post an example of the genre you plan to use for your own op-ed.
My op-ed will be on concealed carry on campuses: My solution since more and more universities are allowing concealed carry on campuses would be to acquire metal detectors on the dorms as well as more officers on campuses and more cameras on the buildings.
I'm debating weather to do a brochure or a video, I believe both will portray my solution in the best way possible instead of an essay. My only concern with doing a video is that I wont be able to incorporate my ethos, logos, and pathos, correctly and maybe that would harm my execution.

Lit Review Transitions
Example 1)
I believe i did do a good job transitioning from stating my questions to finalizing my introduction i did so by saying “ these questions will narrow the purpose of this literature review by providing the backgrounds of Concealed Carry at Campuses, the history that lead us to the debate and the laws implemented in order to make it happen” I finished by talking about the purpose of those questions and how it would help my paper.
Example 2)
For my first question What concealed carry guidelines are permit holders required to follow to allow a weapon at campus? i was able to successfully introduce my quote by stating “Handgun training is required, Students for Concealed Carry on Campus gave a few options as to where this training could take place and the price for acquiring such permit”. Not only did I introduced my quote and what it would be about but i also gave some information over what my next couple of sentences would cover after my quote.

@falconrws1302
the moment you find out that we still need a rough draft and the final due in two weeks
when I finally find a article that helps me answer one of my research questions and will help produce a debate with another article
Finding my research articles have been very difficult because you find a really good one then you notice that it wont help you answer any of your research questions.

My first concern with the lit review is that I have never done one before so I'm not sure what to expect. I know that it is a lot of work and that worries me somewhat but hopefully is not as bad as I think.
falconrws1302

my other concerns are the articles and academic journals I have to select for my lit review. I had trouble with citations on the GA analysis paper and that worries me mores since now we will be using more articles and journals.

For question # 1 How does studying genres impact your writing? What are the complexities of using genres?
for that question I choose the first two images because it showed the hard time I had with citations throughout my paper, that something I had difficult with. For my second image I found really interesting how now a days a meme forms part of our every day life. I chose a meme as my genre so I found funny what the image I choose said about making a meme a genre.

week:2 Genre Analysis
Audience: The audience for this genre is inclined more for those who are for or against guns allowed at campuses. Guns overall are a picky subject one that gets people upset, angry, and overly excited. college students are being asked their opinions over the subject and is clear that their way of showing their support is through media. This poster allows the audience to remember and think over a series of unforgettable moments throughout our history involving gun shootings at colleges and universities.
Purpose: The purpose of this genre is to persuade the audience into understanding why allowing concealed guns at campuses is necessary. In both images they use some sarcasm to persuade their readers to understand that by not allowing guns at colleges the harm may be greater as witnessed in previous incidents. In the first image another purpose may be to inform the readers of past incidents involving shootings and where they happened.
Ehthos: The first image has credibility and it gives us a webpage ConcealedCampus.Org, were we could find more information over the subject and the picture itself. the second image has no credibility its simple purpose is to persuade the readers.
Logos: The message on both images is clearly to advocate the importance of allowing concealed arms at campuses. As shown in image one, over the years we have witnessed a number of incidents involving guns at colleges and unfortunately no one was able to protect themselves. On image two we are able to understand that the message is that if guns were to be allowed the staff will be able to protect the children at any cost. It is clear that both images are intended to make us aware the pros of allowing guns at school, our safety being the number one reason.
Pathos: Image one has a prohibited gun sign and underneath the phrase " because it worked so well at" and a list of 18 colleges and universities around the country that have had an incident involving a shooting. this image was intended to make us realizes that even with guns not being allowed all those incidents happened. The second image starts with a question and separates into to sides. one side banning guns while the other allowing guns but with a powerful message underneath. these images were made to captivate our eyes and make us read the messages with their bold black and white wording.
