Fair trade is often described as a “moral economy” but that is in opposition to studies and literature (Moberg, 9). In the process of moral economy and fair trade, it has made large farmers and merchants richer while also raising the prices, so the poor cannot afford the goods produced. This is neglected when the term “moral economy” is used and has sparked many riots in the past. NGOs are often referred to as gap fillers.

Gentrification causes ignored issues within the existing community, often the problem is the citizens being ignored and ousted. There are some groups that rise and speak up for community needs that are essential in dealing with gentrification.

Only 1% of people in Haiti have access to to tertiary education, one of the requirements from NGO’s hiring people. NGOs are supposed to help support and rebuild countries like Haiti in times of crisis. The requirement for jobs makes it unattainable for most and does not help the economy or decrease poverty.

The idea of Mexican immigrants coming to the US to ‘steal’ jobs isn’t as glamorous as portrayed. An estimated 34.8 percent of Mexican immigrants and their US born children live in poverty, this is a substantially higher number than immigrants coming from other countries.

Brazil is headed towards the same fate as the US, with a dictatorship on the rise. Bolsonaro’s plight to win the election comes with great levels of violence from his backers, as has been seen from the attitude perpetuated by Trump in America.
