John hadn’t meant to slip. He really didn’t, but the world was too much, and the team was too loud, and he promised himself he wouldn’t do this anymore. 

He zoned back in briefly to see Bucky standing over him. When had John gotten to the corner?

Bucky had his flesh hand on John's shoulder, his thumb rubbing in soothing circles. Part of John's brain – the rational part – told him that they all knew exactly what was going on. Bob did the exact same thing at least once a week. 

But fuck if it wasn’t humiliating. He was a soldier, not a baby. 

Except that wasn't true. He knew it wasn’t true. He would never be soldier again because he lost his cool and the world hates him and Papa was probably disappointed –

“John!” 

John snapped out of it, looking up towards the voice. Bucky had grown more frantic when he didn’t get an answer the first few times he called the man. Shouting probably wasn’t the best choice, but it felt like the only one. Taking a deep breath, Bucky continued. 

“What’s wrong?” he asked. John took a shaky breath, shaking his head. Bucky nodded, shifting his weight. He was getting too old to be crouched down next to littles. 

“You don’t gotta say anything, John. But being on the floor isn’t very comfortable for either of us, is it?” Bucky said. He was hoping that giving John the illusion that he was uncomfortable would get him moving. Luckily, he was right. 

John sniffled, before shuffling and moving to stand up. Ava reached a hand out to help him, which caused him to pause before taking it. The entire team had all figured out he was regressed by now. How they hadn’t seen it before was beyond them. 

John had not only been irritable and snappy all day, but also spacey and fidgety. But John was a closed off person, so they didn’t push. They regretted it when he suddenly groaned in the middle of a mission-planning-session and started hyperventilating. 

They had made their way to the living space where Bob had the TV going. John was still shuffling beside Ava, one hand gripping hers and the other rubbing his eyes. The panic attack had clearly worn him out. 

Bucky made sure him and Ava got to the couch safely. Ava had John sit down before sitting beside him. Bucky caught Yelena smiling softly. He kneeled down in front of John. 

“How old do you feel?” Bucky asked. John blinked, surprised. His first thought was to deny feeling small. But he knew it wouldn’t do any good, so instead he thought. He thought of how he was feeling, how he would feel doing other things, before landing on a number. 

“Four,” he said. Bucky nodded. 

“That’s a good age, buddy” Ava praised, smiling. She reached one hand to ruffle John's hair, getting a small squeak in response. 

Bob walked up to John, sitting on his other side. Him and John made eye contact as Bob slowly curled up into John's side. John smiled, patting Bob's head clumsily. 

Bucky smiled, looking back to Alexei and Yelena. Alexei made an over exaggerated salute, before walking off. Yelena walked over to Bob's side, flopping next to him. Bucky took John's hands in his.  

They would have to talk about this more when John feels big again, but for now, they’re gonna stay right there.

80% of his time when hes little is spent on a video game

would never admit it, but hes WAY more emotional in littlespace

Buck Agere Headcanons

(Aricka x Buck)

Littlespace age range: 1-3, sometimes ages up to 5-6, depends on how he feels when he’s initially regressing

Preferred age: typically 2-3 years old, cause he’s used to being independent, but with Aricka’s help he’s getting more comfortable being 1-2 years old

Nickname for Aricka when he’s in headspace: mama; no matter what age.

His favorite nicknames Aricka calls him:

Buccaneer- a fun play on his nickname -! Plus he loves pirates

Buck-o: same as above

Little buddy: this one just because it makes him feel so special, like he’s mama’s special helper.

Ev/Evy- Aricka is the ONLY ONE who can call him that. Anyone else gets growled at.

Honeybee: no real reason why, he just likes being called this

Favorite pajamas: his firetruck pjs-!! They’re zip up and so soft.

Favorite stuffies: mama got him so many stuffies when she first found out he was a Little. He’s a very spoiled boy and he’s so so lucky that his mama always knows exactly what he wants before he even tries to ask for it-!

Favorite toys: his legos, his dress-up collection, his action figures- Captain America is the BEST!-, his toy kitchen set, and the few baby dolls he’s been amassing, because little boys can play with dolls too-!

Favorite non-toys: his bike, he loves climbing trees with mama’s supervision (only when he’s older, in that 5-6 year headspace), his sandbox, he loves going to the park, he likes making slime and homemade play dough.

Favorite littlespace snacks and meals: anything his mama or Gran’pa Bobby makes for him-!

Favorite sippy cup: his cup that looks like an actual fire engine! It’s red and has a yellow straw, and he usually has juice or water in it.

Signs that he’s regressing: he zones out, begins chewing his nails or thumb, fidgets nervously, doesn’t really talk a whole lot. If he’s at work and he drops, Eddie is the babysitter until Aricka gets there.

What helps him regress: cuddles. So many cuddles. And getting into his Little gear, and watching Bluey-! And Paw Patrol- Marshal is his favorite.

"Well...im not the-um....biggest fan of physical affection but...when I am little cuddles from Yelena and Bucky are nice. Ava doesn't do too much physical contact, neither does John. And for self soothing...? W-well I....I guess I do normal stuff like just...have someone read to me or I watch tv with Ava. Alexei encourages me to draw out my feelings...."put the void onto paper!" Or-or something like that...I'll pass it to you John."

Because he's in denial he won't really....self soothe. He just throws big tantrums. Shouts. Hits. Breaks stuff. Scares the shi-I mean crap out of Bob. Really the only thing that calms him down is if we all leave him alone. Whatever self soothing mechanisim he has we don't know what it is. But maybe we find out soon. Who knows."

I like coloring too! I’ve got a really cool Disney coloring book that helps me calm down when I’m upset, maybe we could color together sometime Bob, if you want.

🌈 . . . Even though she’s so small she still doesn’t like germs, if she finds a blanket or toy on the floor she’ll fuss and pout, she won’t suck her thumb either !!
