“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Sounds like Gina got what she wanted

So should everybody ignore the fact Maxwell is getting seemingly special treatment when she was transferred to a Texas facility that is less harsh from what I heard? I don't like the idea dropping that subject because Epstein is dead and not important anymore and Maxwell will get Justice even though it feels like she isn't at this point.
I'm sure the transfer was part of the deal for cooperating with the DoJ a couple weeks ago, which is not terribly unusual in and of itself. I don't know if it was worth it though. Would depend what they got from her. I doubt she gave them anything that will lead to high profile arrests but if they got enough for even just a couple arrests of some no-name creeps, that's probably worth a change of scenery.

months ago perhaps but now with governments insane push for a online safety act of their own and that one supreme Court ruling on id verification I kind of feel like he would vote for it.
but let's say if it does get passed what will happen and is it going to be pretty much the same thing like what's going on in the UK or COPPA?
There's a lot of pieces to it that honestly I think are more likely to result in social media companies and such flatly banning minors than trying to overhaul their platforms to comply with any of it. Which... I think they can do just by saying you must be 18 or older or having you click something to affirm you are. This does not currently require age verification with govt ID like we've seen with the UK or some states' porn bans.
It does direct the federal govt to study the idea of such age verification methods.
For the uninitiated, when govt says it's going to study a problem, that means it's going to spend a lot of money to write up a report recommending the govt take whatever action the govt wanted to take in the first place. It's a great way to kick the can down the road when people want you to do something you don't want to do or when you want to cover for when you do something people are going to get mad about. Politicians love it because it's incredibly easy to spin in whatever direction the wind is blowing.
Now again, that study is going to find exactly what they want it to find. But what that is has yet to be determined and even once it has been, it's not a done deal. If they want to take an action, it will require a separate vote and its own legislation and it will take a few months to even get the report back, by which time we are likely to be in the thick of midterm campaigning and the political calculus will be very different than it is today.
Does that make passing such nonsense more or less likely? Don't know yet. But we'll have a few solid chances to kill it before then, at least.
And with the UK's age verification being a such a shitshow, I like those odds.

honestly I think they will get it pass. this international push it's crazy and even if Johnson was against it last year, I don't think I trust him since I now feel his concerns about Democrats censoring Republicans was less about free speech and privacy and more about who would censor first. like anything that comes out of his mouth I can't trust it especially since he said in the American people deserve to know what's in the Epstein files yet block it.
like he would definitely get it passed if it's to censor views they don't agree with
I think if he wanted it passed that badly, he would have already gotten it introduced in his chamber. I'm not saying he won't let it pass or even vote for it if the politics of the moment are right but I don't think it's something he's really trying to do.

the kosa bill got more co-sponsors. is this thing going to pass or is that just fear mongering from certain people?
As far as I've seen, this thing still hasn't been reintroduced in the House and the only action in the Senate has been to refer it to committee a couple months ago... until one of those things changes, I'm not going to worry too much about it. But if it does start moving, it has enough bipartisan sponsors that it could move very quickly.

Would you happen to have any insider knowledge on why I'm getting ads about gun control on Youtube despite living in a state with no elections this November, something youtube definitely knows about me?
Cynical answer: some consultant somewhere found an advocacy org to milk for a few extra dollars on some easy work in the off-season
Slightly less cynical answer: is your state legislature in session? Someone might be trying to gin up some public demand for a bill they want to unveil soon.

Yeah and even if that kind of thing did happen, you really do not want to have to challenge results after the fact. It's an extremely weak position to be in, even if you have all the concrete proof in the world. And it's a position you wouldn't be in if you had done something a little bit better somewhere else beforehand. Campaigns need to plan to do things that little bit better.
Another cycle begins and with it my campaign frustrations are reborn so please enjoy this incomplete list of things I will inevitably to say in more diplomatic terms to candidates over the next 15 months
yes you need to fundraise
no there is no such thing as having enough volunteers that you don't need to raise money
yes you need to be the one to make the fundraising calls
I know you don't like it, no one does
I know we hired a fundraiser but you have misunderstood what their job is
their job is really more like being your pimp - they arrange the meeting but you have to do the dirty work
please just make the damn calls
it does not matter what your signs look like as long as they're legible and have your name on them
no amount of t shirts and bumper stickers will cause you to win your election
yes you need to canvass
yes you need to canvass
no one is going to read the 10k word essay you wrote for your bio
just getting media appearances is not good enough
I know it sounds counterintuitive but you do need to schedule regular personal hours with no campaign work or you are going to go insane
you also need to schedule when you are going to eat or it will never happen
you should not be managing your own social media
there is no such thing as privacy on a campaign
you think that means the media will be all up in your business but what it really means is that your staff needs know when your colonoscopy appointment is so we can schedule around it
for fucks sake why are you getting into a fight with someone on twitter
I know your opponent said something you don't like, welcome to politics
if we plan ahead, we can do it cheaper
the media isn't ignoring your race to sabotage you, they just don't see the point in covering a six way primary where the incumbent is projected to take 70% of the vote
no the national pacs are not going to come in to spend money on you
good enough is better than perfect if perfect takes so long that it never fucking happens
no you don't need to be endorsing other candidates in other races
it doesn't matter how many people are following you on twitter
it also doesn't matter how many people went to a rally you were at
for the love of fuck don't ever finish a media appearance or speaking engagement without telling people how they can support the campaign
hint: they can give you money, volunteer hours, and votes and you should ask for all three
not everything needs a response
sometimes the correct way to answer a question is to not answer it
stop worrying about what might happen and start worrying about what you can fucking control
you cannot buy things with money you don't have so you really do need to fundraise
if you are doing anything other than asking for votes or asking for money, you are wasting time
no you didn't lose because of fraud

Hey, I was wondering do you know exactly what happened to Proud Black Conservative/Libertarian Lynn? Like in 2020 she deactivated and came back later as some flavor of leftist and it just feels off.
I don't know anything more than that. I follow her new account and she still seems cool and I wish her well. That's all I got. Sorry.

Trump isn't managing his own social either. He's running his mouth on it, which I don't want my candidates doing either, but managing is a whole different beast. Two reasons for that, one is that you're right, they're going to say dumb shit and it's not going to roll off of them the way it does off of Trump, but the other is any time they spend on social media doing anything is wasted time. The candidate is one resource on a campaign that cannot be replace. Their time is more valuable than anyone else's. They need to be maximizing it.
No, I mean this about even the regular midterm congressionals/statewides. People greatly overestimate the involvement of big pacs. Unless you are in one of their like six target districts nationwide, you're getting nothing. A few pacs might throw you a few bucks if you're already going to win just so that they can claim 'credit' for your win but you already have to be a sure bet for them to do that. And in either case, you usually can't have any control or communication with the people spending the money on you so you can't really consider it a factor in your strategy anyway.
And yeah. Honestly less with the candidates themselves (usually) than with the activists, but trying to convince people that we have to campaign with the expectation that fraud will occur and plan to win by enough of a margin that it won't matter is an ongoing issue. But it's not just about fraud, it's about giving yourself room for any of the ten thousand things that are going to go wrong. If you plan for 50%+1, you have no margin for error. And there will be errors. And sheer dumb shit luck. Plan to compensate for that or plan to lose. So you didn't lose because of fraud, you lost because you failed to plan properly.
Another cycle begins and with it my campaign frustrations are reborn so please enjoy this incomplete list of things I will inevitably to say in more diplomatic terms to candidates over the next 15 months
