HOW THE SOCIAL MEDIA HAS HELPED FAMILIES, SOCIAL WORKER, AND THE GOVERMENT IN DISCERNING INFORMATION DURING THE CALAMITIES?

WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA?
Are you familiar with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and any social media sites? Yes, I know you have known each one of them mostly. According to Wikipedia, Social media is interactive digitally-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation or sharing/exchange of information, ideas, career interests, and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks.
And yes, social media helped families, social workers, and the government in discerning info during calamities. Through social media, the information we need is one click to get. So nowadays social media helps us to connect, interact with each other.
Sometimes through social media, we can connect to our relatives wherever they live. We can interact and make a bond with them online. And this is a simple way to feel them that we close each other.
While in social workers it can be a tool to educate them informations during calamities. Our government most especially.
And also, Social media helped the government the most, especially they can spread or disseminate information through the use of social media.
Do you remember when the "Bagyong Ulysses" landed in the Philippines? People in social media has made a way to spread the information about the damage result after the typhoon landed. And through social media, the government take an action to help the people live there and also the people in social media make a way to help them by collecting donations from kind-hearted people out there.
See, social media had a big community where we can interact, connect, and gathered information. But always remember, not only we can see to social media are reliable and truth and we need to think before we click.

And according to Mashable, More than 66% of adults are connected to one or more social media platforms, but who exactly are these people?
Social media has re-defined communication in today’s modern world. Text messaging, the internet and social networking sites have made it possible to communicate with a large number of people anywhere on earth. It is an efficient and easy way to keep in touch and impart information, particularly in a time of crisis. The Internet has become an essential communication network during this time. With thousands displaced from their homes and many having fled the disaster zone, people turned to social networking sites to contact friends, post photos and share stories.

Unlike before, where social media is doesn't exist there's only have tv, newspaper, and radio. Where we cannot connect and before we can interact with them we can only wait until 1 month before they received the letter. It's very hard before unlike today. If there's a typhoon it hard to know the information about this before because of lack of radio, etc.
If social media do not exist it can be difficult for us because the information we need to gather was limited and not enough. And this is why social media is important to us.
