Hi, I hope you don't mind a more general rp question? If not feel free to ignore! I've wanted to make a multi-muse blog for ages, but I'm really torn between making one blog so it's all in one place or a "hub" blog like you have. What made you decide to go with a hub? Were there particularly pros and cons to doing it that way? Thank you!
hi there! not at all, i’m glad to help. i hope you see this, b/c its been like a day.
i think the pros and cons mostly depend on what you want from the blog and who you intend to have on the multimuse. for me, having a hub with sideblogs has helped well b/c it allows me to pull characters i’m v attached to (like thora or merrill) on their own blogs while having ones who i just want to roleplay once in a blue moon off on a multi/sideblog combo. ppl like vivienne i mostly started rping b/c of how little there is of her in the rpc + the potential rp situations with my friends’ characters.
and overall w/ all my these characters i don’t want to be drowning in activity, b/c my main blog (theharellan) is always so busy. so hub works best b/c frankly i don’t think a lot of ppl realise that i’m an rp hub w/ sideblogs when i follow them.
what i’m saying is if you want more attention, a multimuse might do you better than a hub with sideblogs! i would suggest keeping the multimuse to one fandom, or at least not too many divergent fandoms. idk, this might be a personal preference, but i’m much more likely to follow a multimuse that’s only dragon age characters (or even only bioware, or only video gamse!) than a multimuse that has dragon age, marvel, HP, and what have you. like as sb who usually wants her dash to be majority dragon age i do take fandoms included into account.
ummm just to sum up
- hubs allow me to allocate special attention to certain characters. i can go on merrill’s sideblog and answer merrill things, for example, whereas my multimuses i find it hard to just stick to one character.- on the flipside sideblogs may get overlooked b/c ppl don’t read your blog description and realise you’re a hub. multimuses also get overlooked, but overall i think ppl are more receptive to them than they were a year or two ago. if you’re keeping things low activity like me that might be ideal, but if the characters that would be connected to the hub are your focus a multimuse may be better

Code: https://pastebin.com/Y1fvsZ46 Preview: Base code | My character page (an example of how it can be customised!)
—-
In light of charahub shutting down its servers in march, I decided to rewrite & release the code for my character page!
It’s key feature is that it uses the isotope script to allow you to sort through and filter which characters display on screen.
You can also set a default filter to be displayed on page load (I use it to hide my older characters by default on my oc blog, & display characters from the current chapter of my webcomic, for a couple examples!)
And, if you click on a character’s portrait, a box will appear with more information!
Font awesome icons are also included - you can see me using them for the element icons, & to mark which characters belong to my friends on my character page!
I’ve done my best to make it easy to customise - but unless you completely rewrite the css & html please don’t redistribute it as your own! Isotope is open source though so you’re welcome to make your own page like this with the same jquery :^)
In anycase I hope the code is useful to you 💕
