Unfortunately, when confronting bigotry, ignorance and the intentional harm of the innocent, our first response is to dehumanize them to further separate us (the witness/opposed) from them (the opposers/witnessed).

This is a tactic used by oppressive forces to dehumanize their targets and justify cruel treatment, denying them rights and ignoring them in grand political change.

We don't use the tactics of the oppressor, and need to shake the mindset of a greater US and a lesser Them, because it is not a lacking of humanity but an undeniable presence of it that is the cause and encouragement of such mindsets. It is our duty, on a fundamentally human level, to approach these issues of undeniable worth and the danger of its denial with the mindset that humans are denying other humans and humanoid or otherwise intelligent people essential rights and needs to survive.
