"I find it good for my soul standing beside a river or lake watching the world go by, knowing I am but a minute piece of it. I'm not sure of my place in it exactly, but I like sharing it with my friends and family, with the hope that one day we all might better understand the natural world around us."

North Dakota's Pessimistic Hunting Outlook
This article hits a different note from that heard from eastern deer-overrun areas: "what deer hunters are likely to find when the gun season opens Nov. 4 is what pheasant http://www.tumblr.com/blog/armiger/new/texthunters have been seeing for the past three weeks: fewer wildlife. And ultimately, that equates to fewer opportunities." Two factors mentioned: winter deaths and over-hunting.
An article commentator offered two additional insights on North Dakota hunting:
"The much greater concern for ND hunting should be two fold. First the lack of landowners allowing hunters on their land, for hunters that don't have an "in" they are pretty well restricted to tiny areas of highly over hunted plots land and the grasslands. When you can find a legally posted sign with name and contact info (most have nothing on them) it's only because the landowner want's to charge you for hunting on his land. The rest have sold their land to hunting leases. Even ranchers who we've hunting on their land since the 70's no longer allow us on there." "Second more and more every year I see public lands such as the grasslands covered in atv tracks. Not to mention that with all the roads being put in every inch of the badlands the last 10-15 years there's nothing "bad" about them anymore. It's harder to get into the mall parking lot on a weekend than it is almost any section left in western ND. I can remember when you parked somewhere and could walk all day never see a road, car, human etc. Now you can drive to and around almost every section in western ND. Those you can't people are using ATV's illegally to drive into."
Compare with this impression from Pennsylvania: "Our deer herd is strong. We've got more and more public land open to hunters. And, with any luck, we'll soon be able to take to the woods seven days a week."

"...useful in-app upgrades can be added for a small fee of 99 cents each. These upgraded features include barometric trends, lightening strike data and Realtree's Game Activity Meter, a feature that utilizes years of field research."

"For the past five years or so, we have seen a steady decline in the number of quail in our area. The reasons for this decline are complex. Before this year, talk of habitat loss, possible disease and less than favorable weather conditions all have been on the table for discussion and debate."

"Tough hunt....  But that's OK. This early season never has been about increasing deer bagged in overall terms as much as it has been to give muzzleloader hunters an opportunity to be afield in something tamer than January's typical ice follies."
