I recently figured out that, for me, it's not the overwhelming presence of romance in society that bothers me, it's the pressure to also have a romantic relationship.

I love seeing other people happy in their relationships, I love hearing my sister tell me about her boyfriend (who is almost certainly going to propose to her this year). I just wish that my happiness for them wasn't mistaken as eagerness to have that for myself. Romance just isn't something I desire, but it makes me so happy that it's such a good thing for so many people.
