Yesterday, my mother fractured her arm while trying to get aid. I couldnāt go with her because Iām severely malnourished. She smiled through the pain so we wouldnāt worry, but I could see it all in her eyes ā and it broke me.

We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.
So LA has been ā and continues to ā protest against ICE. These protests havenāt gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasnāt reflecting it.
TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.
Theyāre calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are āstages.ā The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. āHereās what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.ā
And it fucking worked.
TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words āmusic festivalā or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.
So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but itās the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline weāve landed in.

One of my favorite pieces of trans theory I've read is Black on Both Sides: A Racial History of Trans Identity by C. Riley Snorton.
The title of this book is a reference to the 1999 Mos Def album, and specifically the track "Mathematics."
The song focuses on how structural racism (particularly antiblackness) functions in the United States through citing different stats and numbers-- how much money is spent on the US military, how many Americans own cell phones being surveilled, how many people have AIDS, three strikes laws, minimum wage, unemployment rates, budget cuts being funneled into more police, rates of incarceration and probation, health & economic outcomes sorted by zip codes, and so on.
The specific lines from "Mathematics" that Snorton references explicitly in Black on Both Sides are:
"Numbers is hardly real and they never have feelings But you push too hard, even numbers got limits"
The book's beating heart is concerned with the necropolitics of Black trans life, and how Black trans people are discussed, known, constructed as death statistics. How many Black trans women are murdered, how many Black trans people kill themselves.
Since reading that book, I've been listening to the song a lot. I've been thinking about how another song I listen to a lot probably took direct inspiration from "Mathematics"-- a song called "Strange Arithmetic" by The Coup.
In "Strange Arithmetic" the lyrics focus on the ways in which public education functions to socially reproduce racial capitalism to ensure submission and funnel people into (acceptance of) powerlessness. It opens with the verse:
"History has taught me some strange arithmetic Using swords, prison bars, and pistol grips. English is the art of bombing towns While assuring that you really only blessed the ground. Science is that honorable, useful study Where you contort the molecules and then you make that money. In mathematics, dead children don't get added But they count the cost of bullets comin' out the automatic."
I've been thinking about this a lot lately, especially writing fundraisers for friends in Gaza. Last week, I wrote a post for a teenager named Ahmed. Two weeks ago the Israeli military bombed a sewage line to destroy access to potable water in his area.
I googled "Gaza water news" and I saw articles discussing how often this exact tactic is used. I read analysis by a Palestinian activist, Ahmad Abushawish, titled "In Gaza, water kills too" where he outlines how the Israeli army targets Gaza's water infrastructure, blocks entry of materials for repair, and kills anyone working in the water sector.
I wrote that week about the struggle for water globally, and how control over water systems is so central to settler-colonialism. When I drink water, it is impossible for me to not think about Gaza, and Flint Michigan, and Standing Rock, and the fight over the pipeline expansion in Canada.
After months of starvation, famine in Gaza was officially declared. I read the news. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations says 98.5% of cropland in the Gaza strip is destroyed or inaccessible in militarized zones. The World Health Organization says that 100% of people in Gaza now suffer acute levels of food insecurity.
Israel mobilizes to occupy the remainder of Gaza. Al-Jazeera reports that 86% of the Gaza strip is now either a militarized zone, under forced evacuation, or both at once. This is where Ahmed is living. This is where his family's damaged tent is.
Ahmed messages me. He tells me, "the army is approaching our area, there are sounds of bombing, and we feel hungry."
Everything is statistics. Everything is deeply, viscerally personal. Everyone is a number.
"But you push too hard, even numbers got limits"

when I drew this comic 3 years ago I had NO idea how far it would reach. I'm happy to finally share a corrected version with proper abbreviations, and even MORE state names of indigenous origin ā„ļø
however, the goal of this comic was to inspire people to do your OWN research on indigenous history. To question everything we have been taught, and everything that has been pointedly left out. This erasure, this āforgettingā, of history is not just of the past⦠it is happening now. - Across so-called Canada, the US, and US-occupied islands, native women are victims of murder at 10-12x the rate of non-native people, and are the most likely to go missing without being searched for by the law. - Native reservations have the highest rates of poverty in the US, with over HALF of tribal homes with no access to clean water (with more joining this list by the year) - Native people are 6-10x more likely to be unhoused than the rest of the population, and native teens suffer suicide rates higher than any other demographic. This list of modern day genocide goes on (thank you for compiling @theindigenousanarchist <3) and yet take a look at those environmental stats!
Native people manage to do SO much for the planet as a whole - thanklessly - and with all this stacked against them. Don't even get me started on kin fighting in south america. Could you imagine if there was help? #landback is resistance to genocide, and it is the key to saving our warming earth.
So look into it and the other hashtags, cuz a cartoon goose ain't a substitute for a proper education. Love to my grandparents who always kept a map of tribal territories of turtle island on their wall, to speaking on our Tsalagi & Saponi heritage. Love & solidarity forever, happy research, and happy #indigenouspeoplesday

(Also, if you care to support the artist, I'm publishing a book ! and writing another - a fantastical afroindigenous graphic novel - that I post exclusively about with tons of other art on my patreon.)

Alright I will be real with you all. I am so tired. I had a long day. So I will be updating this post with proper text that goes into what is in the image tomorrow. For now, I wanted to get this made and make sure people who need it have access to it!
Also, I have made multiple guides (feline, ursine, equine, etc) but Iāll be making those separate posts until I have them all done. Then Iāll make a masterlist!

Please donāt scroll. I feel horrible making this post but I really have to until I can get this resolved.
Long story short, on July 8th I was scammed. I contacted my bank and at the moment they did give me my money back (or at least I thought they did) after waiting a while. And I was struggling to get back to saving again, but when I finally did get back to saving, they denied my claim and did a credit reversal. And currently my account is overdrawn. My bank isnāt helping me, and I donāt have a way to make money other than commissions and my grandfather. I really donāt like being personal, but just for further proof:

I am in college, disabled and Iām barely making it through the week. Anything helps out and Iām really sorry to ask, please donāt tag this as anything.
C$app (if it works) P.pl Ko-Fi (for commissions or just anything)

Hey y'all -- I'm making this post on behalf of Sami and his family, who are currently suffering in Gaza. You can find their fundraiser here. I think (especially) in a time where people are experiencing so much cruelty, it's our duty as humans living in the world to try to help others the best we can. We've all wished for someone to be there for us in a time of need, and we can be that for other people.
Sami's family has a lot of young children and I ask you to please consider donating if you have the means-- even something small-- or reblogging to circulate their fundraiser. Anything helps! Thank you so, so much for even reading. FUNDRAISER.

Im gonna be so real can yall actually talk about ways we can support trans women in the UK instead of giving all the attention to fucking JKR. I already know that Harry Poter sucks, I wanna know how to actually HELP people. Something something you have to love the oppressed more than you hate the oppressor

ghazzah has no food. this is the most important thing you can say today. the israeli occupation has gotten away with starving 1.8 million+ ppl for long enough to where tht ppl are dying everyday from it now.
protests are no longer effective. there must be a loud, consistent, and coordinated response to the continued policy of collective punishment. because 85% of Gazzans are malnourished. these people will die if we donāt take real action NOW.
what is also important is to keep assisting palestinians in gaza via donating to their campaign. the $ is still used in various ways whether that be for sourcing scarce medical supplies, water, future evacuation, etc. support @blackeagleplogās, my dear friend mohammed whoās become his familyās sole provider at 23 years old, campaign here. heās been severely weakened by hunger & told me today heās only ate lentils once.
how many times did you eat today?
