words can’t really express how much i love the fact that the phrase peter uses to define himself as a person and as a hero, that he’s built his whole identity around, is something he learned, way back in 1963, from johnny storm:

johnny’s the one who taught peter how to be a hero when peter was just starting out as spidey. he’s the one who showed peter that heroism goes beyond the simple possession of superpowers – it’s really about being the person who never stops trying, no matter how many times they might get knocked down. 

basically, johnny, who was an already established and successful teen superhero when peter was still finding his feet, was peter’s earliest role model, or, as he says years later:

and later on, when johnny needed some inspiration of his own, peter returned the favor:

johnny and peter, inspiring and supporting each other across the long, long decades of their friendship.

Taika Waititi actively made sure not only Māori but other indigenous identities, specifically aboriginal Australians, were represented in his film since they were filming on their ancestral lands. 

he invited the Yugambeh mob to welcome them and even had a Māori Kaumātua (elder) to perform a Karakia, “a kind of open-up ceremony from [his] side of things as well.”

he hired an Aboriginal water company to supply that water on set

he wanted to make space for indigenous filmmakers and thus had 8 indigenous interns on set to learn and gain film experience

yes, Taika is a lot of fun and super goofy. But that doesn’t mean Ragnarok doesn’t stand for something bigger. Taika is not only the first Polynesian man to direct a superhero movie, but he is also the first indigenous person to do so too. While he is barrel of laughs and a half, please don’t forget what Taika brought to the MCU. (x) (x) (x)
