“ it was a joooooooooke. ” it was not a joke. the car tire was flat, it looked like it was about to rain, and they were stopped in the absolute middle of nowhere. not really, but they only had one bar on their phones and it wasn't doing anything. “ i was just sayin' if you talked to that person standin' over there, we'd have a better chance of getting help. you got better eyes than i do and uh, yeah. i can't see anything, i think my contacts are dryin' out. ” a lie, he had eye drops. deft fingers run through curls, nails digging through his scalp as he purposely honks the horn. the two of them weren't alone except for someone standing in the distance doing something inconspicuous [ to chad ], but he did not want to leave the car. “ you're wearing your lucky sweater today and i look rough. what if they think i'm ugly and decide to beat me up ? then we'll both be out of luck. ”

it crashes over him the way a wave consumes wholly and entirely, without warning, without mercy or forgiveness. it shakes the oxygen from his lungs and he's left gasping for the smallest breaks, anything to remind him he was still alive and still in control. no matter how many times this sensation had embraced him, it's never gotten any easier, and it did not help that he found himself alone in a place that would chew him up into pieces but spitting him out. perhaps even auradon would have done the same but he'd learned to navigate its thorny garden. it doesn't hit him that he'd wandered further off course than intended, the locked space no longer solitary but the open air. it makes no sense.

beads of sweat trace at his hairline, skin cold to the touch as his muscles twitch under pressure. he never knows when it ends, if it ever truly does, just that he's able to finally hear something other than the sound of his own heartbeat — and the sound of shoes scuffling over the cracked ground. “ don't — ” it dies in his throat, a futile attempt to push her away. it isn't even fear that beckons him but shame and embarrassment. he knows he isn't out of the woods, and he doesn't see himself being strong enough to run out. the worst of it had passed through, he knows this, and yet he remains stuck, mentally and physically. he blinks, forcing his view into focus as he searches for her face. “ sorry i keep breakin' promises. ”

          admittedly ,   she had not liked chad at first .   he was always ending up in places where he shouldn’t be ;   lost on the isle twice over now ,   always ending up in trouble ,   never ending up where he is meant to be .   harriet has little patience in that vein ,   even with those closest to her .   and yet ,   despite herself ,   she finds herself in a situation she had not expected :   turning a corner and finding @arroganced​ curled up on the ground ,   looking pale and rattled .   almost immediately ,   harriet recognizes the behaviour right down to the stuttered breathing and shaking hands  …  all-too familiar herself ,   an act that is kept behind closed doors so no one can see one’s weakness .

          almost immediately ,   the urge to help rises in her gut ,   ever the helper ,   the involuntarily mother-figure that has to fix everyone’s problems .   even the problems of people she barely knows ,   barely tolerates ;   perhaps she is cursed to care just a little too much all of the time .   regardless ,   she allows the urge to win and shuffles closer ,   dragging worn and torn boots across the cobblestone ,   gathering herself and sitting down on the disgusting ground next to him ,   leaving a decent bit of space in between .   no words can come from her lips yet ;   she just doesn’t quite know what to say to him to make him feel better .

Auradon makes up the entire world. When Auradon is introduced, it’s stated that ALL of the kingdoms came together. However, looking at how many square miles make up Auradon, you will see that it is by no means small. To put this into perspective, Auradon is essentially the supercontinent Pangea.

after graduating auradon prep and taking the year to focus on academics, chad uses his spare time to work with his eldest sister while she continues to prep for the throne because he wants to be taken more seriously and attempt growing up a Teeny bit. so this means making it to main events, fundraisers, meetings, etc. at some point it kinda hits him that he CAN attempt to make change happen since his family had the closest connection with sentient creatures and sidekicks, and i think he spearheads this effort and later becomes the point person for this mission

in tandem with my previous post    —    ella did NOT want plans for the isle to go through. she’s a character that is full of love and care, through and through. in all adaptations of her story, she chose to forgive. she forgave her step-mother and her step-sisters. her entire arc was about choosing kindness. and this doesn’t change in desc verse at all ( and i like to think i have free rein with this bc there are no canon desc. references to her, really ). during auradon’s formation and the uniting of the kingdoms, there was saturated fear and paranoia about the villains, propaganda made from all sources    —    the villains had ruined their lives, hurt them, abused them, took people from them. how to keep these families and their future children safe? it took but one suggestion for most people to agree : the isle. a place to keep the villains separated and away. meaning their world would be away from any potential danger threats.

but ella hated the idea of imprisoning people, of bringing them back from the dead. it went against every one of her values and her morals and she felt it was wrong, unjust, and inhumane. being one of the prominent rulers of this newly formed auradon, she had a voice and she used it. every single meeting, she spoke out against its creation. however, she was with child and her unborn baby was used as leverage against her    —    could she live peacefully in a world where danger always lurked, where these powerful villains could take everything away in an instant? it came down to the villains or the safety of her children. and when put in that position, she chose safety of her children, vowing to never let them grow up in a world where they couldn’t be safe. 

the gif at the top is so important because that’s how i see her having this very conversation with her husband, being so torn about it and upset, unhappy with the decisions she’s being forced to make, and the new world she’s now forced to adapt to.

so, for ella, what got her through it was convincing herself that it was for her baby, that it was for the safety of all future children in auradon    —    not yet considering the very real fact that children would be born on the isle, as well. and as the years went by, she grew comfortable in auradon’s bubble. because of her upbringing, she grew up become a prominent figure in auradon, a major philanthropist. she’s founded and funded numerous charities and foundations, focusing on the lives of children, determined to ensure none of them would live the same life she did. 

even after learning that there were children on the isle, she remained out-numbered    —    auradon had enough of its issues ( sidekick mistreatment, lack of rights for sentient animals, just to name a few from the long, long list of everything wrong with auradon ) that it couldn’t just drop it all and focus on the isle. so she told herself    —    after things in auradon were fixed, they would help the children of the isle. but it never happened all those years. until ben.
