The work of art that stuck out to me the most was the Allegory of Fire painting. This painting was created by “Jacopo Bassano (Jacopo da Ponte) and Workshop” Italian 1510-1592. The Allegory of Fire was an oil on canvas painting which is what most of the paintings there were. This painting is 46 x 66cm and the painting includes workers producing objects using fire and armors, jugs, tools, glass, jewelry, and crystals. The Allegory of Fire also symbolizes the human’s ability to control fire with its inherent power.  This painting caught my eye because when I saw it, I immediately thought of Allegory of the Cave. I know they are not the same thing but that is why it caught my attention. In this painting, there was men working and it seemed like they were holding swords and stabbing metal pieces with them. There was a bunch of opened metal pieces and at the bottom, there was a man with a dog. The fire was represented by Venus who was the goddess of love. The description of this painting stated, “… from jewelry to arms and armor, as are the tools used to make them, including hammers, anvils, shears, and grinding and buffing wheels.” Most of the Allegory painting’s represent deep meanings such as life, death, love, virtue, justice, etc. This is another reason I picked this piece of artwork because I find the background stories so interesting. I think the author was trying to say that the power of fire is needed to produce this huge number of objects as a destructive force.  As I observed different pieces in the Ringling, I would research facts about my top favorites but all the small details that built on top of each other to create this painting is why I chose it.
